Yeah. It's a shame because Shudderwock's battlecry goes hand-in-hand with Deathseer Thrall's. DT's battlecry is possibly better than Hagatha's when playing Shudderwock's, depending on the situation. But you're right DT's use is limited when you can upgrade a minion and have one worse than you had two turns ago. Not to mention any buffs Shudderwock may give you will go away if DT goes off last.
I've been messing around with a Shudderwock/DK deck. It's pretty fun, but gets very limited results.
Think they felt the evolve mechanic was really lacking once Evolve rotated out of standard and they wanted to introcude new decks for Shaman instead of continued support for evolve.
While DK Thrall is a decent card on its own, with only 3 cards in standard utilizing the evolve mechanic, DK shaman kinda felt a little more pointless than the rest of the DK cards. Thus the need for a new hero
We were told the reason for her being a Shaman Hero card the moment Hagatha was revealed: https://twitter.com/bdbrode/status/973281517353844736 She's important to the "story" of The Witchwood, a Hero card made sense and stands out from the other Legendaries, and Witch = Shaman was an easy connection.
You're welcome to read into it to find gameplay reasons, I guess, but why does there need to be one?

All except Uther, who is also pretty pointless now with Beardo and Bully rotated out. Maybe Paladin will be the next class to get a new hero.
You still have Zola,Pixie and pandas.
Exactly. I actually find that method to be even better. I skip the pixie though. Zola and Pandas, you rarely whiff and get a "double" but if you do, it's normally just the once, and no big setback. Fun deck.
