So like the statistical minority of my fellow WiiU owners, I'm playing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess today.

So what the hell am I doing here?

Well, The Witcher 3 is an incredibly polished game, and I think we can all agree that CDPR's animators did a really bang-up job. In fact, one of the things that really impressed me about TW3 was the fact that there were different animations for mounting Roach depending on Geralt's position relative to the horse, as well as his speed.

Running up to Roach to mount him from behind (did I really just write that withoug giggling? Mother: I am now an adult) will cause Geralt to place both hand's on Roach's rump (hahahaha) and vault over into the saddle.

It's a pretty cool animation, yeah?

And it turns out Nintendo did the exact same thing in Twilight Princess: different mounting animations depending on Link's position, including the two-handed rump vault.

I'm not saying CDPR stole the animation from Nintendo (thieves!) or that it was necessarily a deliberate reference (maybe it's a common move among equestrians?) but I *did* think it cool enough to spend thirty seconds to make a thread about it here.

So, uh... there it is.

i noticed that too, that mounting the horse from different angles was also in zelda games.

my SO hates when i point out similarities between the two (he's got a thing against nintendo), but they're f***ing there! it's just part of being a good adventure game

-mounting horse from different angles
-diving motion when jumping from higher elevations
-wind waker-style tiny boat riding sections

witcher does not have the ability to chop up signs tho so 0/10

They used the same rear-mounting in Red Dead Redemption I believe.

Sidenote: do NOT try that in real life, the horse WILL freak out. Horses trained to be ridden are trained to only accept riders mounting from the right side.
Trust me, I'm a random stranger on the internet.
Live long, be happy, and try to ensure those around you do as well.

Yeah, it doesn't seem particularly smart, given the reputation horses have for being skittish, as well as the reputation they have for, you know, kicking people really hard with their hind legs.

It's got boats, too. Is that a Windwaker reference? Just about every game with a rideable horse in it has that animation lol

you can mount bikes with different animations in GTA, I'm sure it's a reference to that.
