If I had a dollar for every game this site has called for a boycott of, I'd have enough money to build a super high end gaming PC and a giant 4K monitor to play on.
Pretend to be someone you're not to get free candy. Halloween or Valentine's Day?

Well the west doesnt do that sort of things. Think like if Fallout were to have one of their companions be a, by default, half naked underage girl it would definitely be critized for it.

Nintendo doesnt want bad publicity and would rather censor a rather insignificant part of a game than leave it as is and have it critized and badmouthed by critics.

And I've said multiple times before if that's the way they chose to handle it, they can handle the upset fans that come with it. Not everyone approves of unnecessary censorship. If literally every other localization company can handle underage girls in bikinis, Nintendo shouldn't be any different.

Critics aren't the ones buying the games. People who already know what content is in the game are the ones buying the game.

Nintendo is different though. They are the go-to company for kid friendly games. They do not like venturing past teen rated games. Look, you could say nintendo chose to a side. The side that dont mind the censorship. If you're right then when the game flops Nintendo may reevaluate their future decisions to censor games in the name of their image. Who knows.

If the game still sells then the anti-censors are just the vocal minority and this issue wont change. I guess we'll find out soon enough Raz.

I have to leave for a while. If you respond I'll answer sometime next week. I apoligize in advance.
Good guys, bad guys and explosions, as far as the eye can see.

They've already published 5 M-rated games on the Wii U, which is actually more than their current T-rating library for the system.

And if they truly were dead set on only appealing to children, then why make a game like this in the first place? Why make Zelda or Metroid?

There are bikinis that aren't lewd. That's what people like 13 year olds wear. That's what's acceptable in the world. Not this kind of bikini. Sure, thongs are also acceptable on adults, but sure as hell not on 13 year olds. Similarly, this isn't acceptable either, atleast not without making the game M-rated or higher. That would be the rating of said other games, btw. If you want a game like that, go to those games, not a game like Xenoblade, which is aimed at an entirely different audience.

If a teenager wants to wear this exact bikini, they could. What they wear is up to them and their parents. Thongs are acceptable on teens and children, particularly in the EU. Bikinis are not seen as something sexual.

The game would not be rated M, not by a long shot.

I don't claim to know much about the EU, but I know that's not the case in the US. A teenager could, in theory, wear this exact bikini. But it would be deemed inappropriate by literally everyone. I would probably even expect Child Protective Services to be called on the parents if the teenager in question was 13. Bikini's like the one shown on Lyn are very much seen as sexual. But not all are. There are larger bikinis that cover up much more of the body that are just fine. That's not the bikini in question though, and changes nothing about what we are talking about.

A teenager could wear this bikini and nothing would happen. It doesn't matter what it's seen as, it's legal. You want to point out the law that would be broken by wearing this bikini in real life? I'd love to see it.

You people keep claiming "nope, nope, that cannot happen, it's impossible. It's against morals and laws of nature and the law" but nobody actually proves it. I hate to say this, but this is literally an example of your personal opinion getting in the way of viewing something rationally.

But I'm against censorship on principle

I always find people that say this are basically admitting that they don't care at all about context or logic, and just see everything in absolutes.

Tell me about it. No reasoning with these people.

is different than a bikini that actually covers up most of someone. Young people's bikini's tend to have nearly short-like bottoms, and much, much more to the tops.

No they don't. I'm going to hopefully Google this in a way that won't get me on a list somewhere...

These are the kind of swimsuits that are considered children's bikinis-

I even spotted a very small number that actually had thong bottoms, but that might get me in trouble to post. Now, you want to try telling me again that the silver bikini on Lin is particularly more revealing than any of this? Some of those pics could be argued to be more revealing that the silver bikini in this game. If you truly think that little girl bikinis are always modest and well covered, then you clearly haven't been to a beach or pool with children around in a long time. Every one of those bikinis is fully legal and able to be bought on perfectly legitimate clothing websites.

Actually, it could easily be considered public nudity, which would be against the law. But, since the parents are the ones legally responsible, it would likely be them that'd take the brunt of the punishment.

But, in any case, no one is arguing that you'd punish the person wearing the bikini. This never happens. You don't jail the raped, you punish the rapist. You don't punish the child who was molested, you punish the rapist. In child porn cases, you punish the people involved with spreading said porn and the people who download it. This means that the people enjoying this kind of content are, in fact, at fault. And the devs would've been too, if they hadn't done the right thing and censored the game. Get over it.

You're fighting the good battle. I actually found a written article with the various states and counties where thong bikinis are acceptable and legal in the US posted below as well. Small swimsuits are absolutely acceptable in the US and there was no reason for Nintendo to change it for this game.
