I find it pretty ridiculous that people are able to create polls that are open to anyone, then vote stuff them with VPNs, such as the one in this topic where there are nearly 30 posts but 200+ votes:

I know that it's hard for GameFAQs to get around VPNs, but at least with this option, it'll take longer for trolls to vote-stuff polls (since they would need to constantly create accounts, log in to them, etc.).

I think if the TC wants the poll open to everyone, they should be allowed to make it that way.

However, I think it should SAY somewhere in the poll what type of poll it is. And if anyone wants to point out in the topic "hey this poll is open to everyone so someone might be ballot-stuffing" then they should be allowed to do that too.

And I don't think that 30 posts/200 votes is necessarily indicative of ballot-stuffing. It takes far less effort to vote in a poll than to type out a message, so naturally many people will vote without posting.

It’s up to the creator of the topic/poll to determine if he/she wants unregistered users from voting in polls or not. There are plenty of reasons to allow open balloting, so I can’t imagine this site is going to restrict that ability.

I disagree, especially when that board has declined in activity over the past few months. Others have indicated in the board how they have noticed that these recent polls obviously had vote stuffing.

What would the reasons be outside of vote-stuffing?

gfaqs is a platform that many people use without making an account, for guides and faqs and checking the boards out without ever wanting to post. These people are able to vote still.

However.... they could also just make an account if they wanted to vote, so.

There doesn't need to be 1 way or the other.

It's possible to code a poll so both types of votes are shown simultaneously, but allow the poll creator make which vote-view is default.

For instance.

Best letter? - Results (18 votes)
A 27.78% RRRNN _ 3/2
B 11.11% RR ____ 2
C 38.89% NNNNNNN 0/7
D 5.56% R ______ 1/0
E 5.56% R ______ 1/0
F 11.11% RR ____ 2/0

In this poll, you can see A gets 3 registered votes, and 2 non-registered votes. While C oddly is spammed with non-registered votes.

There should be a button to sort the votes by just registered-users for those who want it.

I'd even go further, and let people make their votes public, if the voter wants. (and hide it later if they want)

(this would be a 3rd type of voter: public/registered/non-registered)

Anyway. I'll *anti-sign* preventing non-registered polls from ever being made.
