  3. Maybe make all Ignores/Blocks/Mod Deletes/Self Deletes look the same?

One thing I find annoying with the new Block feature (and Ignores) is the complaining/taunting about being blocked or ignored.

Things like "Who posted?" or "Why can't I read reply 12?"

I just want to read the thread without being made aware of other's drama. So an idea to help hide the fact from people from telling they were blocked...

... What if any ignore or block, looks like a deleted message? Like so.

(message deleted)

Rather than there be a gap in message counts or when the thread updates in your active messages without any message.

That way a user cannot (easily) tell if the message was a self-delete, a moderator-delete, block, or ignore.

This makes things much more ambiguous. (that's a good thing in this case)

Acknowledgement: (you can tell who got deleted by testing the deleted message by using the ignore feature, and you can temporarily remove all your ignores/blocks by logging out, or browsing the thread in private/incognito browser mode... but nothing's perfect)

Does this seem like a sensible suggestion?

Mini-side suggestion: multiple deleted messages in row should condense into 1 "message deleted", if possible.

You realize people just do that to annoy the other party, yes?

taunting

Sometimes its a joke, othertimes its real. Regardless this suggestion removes it either way.

Hmm, you know I think I'd like one. The primary reason that I disliked using the ignore feature, even for users who annoyed me, is because of the gaps that it leaves in the topic. You'd see what looks like someone posting multiple times in a row, or a one-sided conversation, and you have the carefully look at the post numbers to realize that they were responding to an ignored user. Sometimes I consider that more disruptive to the reading experience than actually seeing their posts would have been. This would indicate to you as the reader that something was there that you're not seeing, and as long as people don't go around trying to bypass it, you won't have to mentally think about what the deleted post is or was.

That's a good reason to dislike the current Ignore implementation that I had not considered. For some it might aid in maintaining the thread's structure and keep it making sense and eliminate misunderstandings.

IB FarplaneDragon, but I'm going to say the exact same thing as he would as both of us think the same about the ignore feature. Grow thicker skin and don't let others bother you. Then you don't need the ignore feature and this will no longer be a problem.

???

I don't ever use (nor do I like) the ignore or block features. (though I accept that others do, and that it probably helps moderators lessen their moderation queue of inappropriate marks)

Tagging is the much superior feature to both. (and deserves upgrades)

I merely suggest a way to improve block/ignore for everyone. (even for people who don't use those features because it does affect them indirectly)
