Just remove them from the topics. This fill the topic with no information. Moreover, topics can have only 500 messages. Useful for sticky topics to store more information.

All forums works in this way. When a message is deleted, it is completely removed from the topic.

The issue though is that posts are numbered and renumbering them would cause issues

For example, if my response had been:

"I agree with post #2"

And then gmo7897 deleted his post, no one would no what I am agreeing to

I don't actually post like that (I'll typically quote the poster), but there are some that do
