Since a few console generations ago, games are almost always identical now across consoles. Why separate the communities by having separate boards for the same game. Generally speaking one board will be active and the rest will be a ghost town.

We could have tags to delineate which console a particular topic is about if it matters but more often than not, a conversation on an Xbox version of a game board would apply to any version of that game. All having separate boards does is dilute the user base of each one.

Don't try to think we can understand each other. For some reason, people think that they can do that. Remember that they can't. Never completely. Never enough.

This was pre-flairs, though. Now that flairs can be used to distinguish the different versions, where necessary, surely this idea should be revisited?

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster is a perfect example. In the very rare case someone posts on the PC or Vita board, I always feel the need to include in my post "If you need more advice in the future, go to the PS4 boards, those are far more active than this one. Aside from a few cosmetic details the versions are identical, so the advice will be the same."

Games often have minor but significant differences. Wind Waker, for example, suffers from too much ocean and too slow travel. If it was merged, people would respond "lol use speed sail" -- but that only exists in the remake, not the original.

So mark them for trolling? Not like it really matters, the boards are fairly dead on both. Trolls want an audience. Plus it's not like they couldn't do the same by going to the original board, so between that and the potential for flairing with the relevant system I feel this is mostly a non-issue.

Except they wouldn't be intentionally trolling; they'd assume that since their version has speed sail, every version has speed sail.

I imagine the average person wouldn't be so stupid to own what is known to be a remake/remaster and go into a topic for the original game, and assume that their knowledge of the remaster applies one-to-one for the original. Even moreso when such differences, if not advertised outright, can be easily researched.

Though, ironically, since a lot of the knowledge does often apply to the original, that only furthers the case for merging the boards: it'd give a more populated place for people to seek help for such games, instead of being isolated to one board or another.

Although that windwalker example probably isn't a good one as it is a remaster, not a simple port.

There is a possibility of flame wars though. And fighting really. I don’t know if flairs would help but each system has its own unique UPC bar code and as such I don’t think things would work out.

Every console has the fans behind it and as such they believe the game is better on their favorite system they play with the most. So if the boards for the games across the systems they are releasing for is a potential problem waiting even with a flair system. What’s going to stop a fan of X system going to Z system flair to cause trouble? Nothing really. Then it’s just gonna go down hill fast.
