People either use passwords they can remember, or a password manager. The inventor of those rules even said they are wholly unnecessary and only waste users' time. In fact it does, I have had to reset my password 3 times in the last year. Clearly I prefer to use the password manager located in my gray matter, and I don't use crackable ones but I do use ones I can remember.

Numbers and symbols aren't part of phrases so, neither are capital letters.. Let's get rid of them please. :)

I didn't realize this applies to Gamefaqs passwords. Did they change it?

I'm honestly inclined to agree. I think enforcing that requirement even slightly weakens the password (since the hacker would know the stuff is there somewhere) from what I recall hearing.

Though obvious grain of salt: not in cybersecurity myself

I respond via this webcomic:

(Or for the less nerdy -- https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/936:_Password_Strength )

It is slightly outdated (as this debate shows) -- the big takeaway is "of the many reasons there is no consistent advice about passwords is ... the issue of threat modeling. What exactly are you trying to defend against?

I havne't had problems creating a password I could remember for this site, but what annoys me is when I come across a site that won't let me use a certain special character so I have to make something else, and then forget the password and have to recover it multiple times a year. I'd like to remove special characters altogether so I don't forget them, but like you said, some force you to use them.

Well, a proposal without an anti-sign in the first few posts. That's a rarity.

I guess that means devs should take a close look at this? :) Thank you.

I doubt this is going to happen. You can argue all the studies you want the reality is that if there's some major breach no company wants to find out that it's traced back to them relaxing the rules somewhere and risk being responsible. Before anyone starts up the "but a breach can happen now" arguments, no s***. A breach can happen with pretty much every rule set. The point is that appearance wise it's never going to be in GameFaqs favor to take the chance.
Don't try to think we can understand each other. For some reason, people think that they can do that. Remember that they can't. Never completely. Never enough.

This more sums up what I wanted to say. I couldn't get the words out right.
