Could we make GameFAQs's search function suck less? Can it be more like Google?

Because--let's face it--just about every search engine in the world has ripped off Google by now. And why not stick with what works? It's nice to be able to use a search engine that takes the possibility of typos into consideration. But the GameFAQs search function is horrible and can't even do that:

I rarely use the search function, but that would be nice to have it work despite a typo in there, as I've had that happen to me too. Sometimes I don't know the exact spelling of a title and am forced to search on yahoo or google first.

I'll sign.

I don't think that would even be a typo, I would have put a space in leafgreen too.

I think a decent search system is pretty difficult to implement though.

Google obviously exist for that sole purpose, and have huge teams dedicated to improving the system. Plus they use AI and advanced machine learning to analyse typos and work out what people meant. Its not realistic to expect that from a small site.

Unless the site can use a custom Google search?

I am always impressed at how quick Google learns new words and terms. For example when a new game gets announced it learns abbreviations by itself. So it knows that Pokemon USUM means Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for example, and it knew that very soon after the game was announced. Probably by machine learning as I doubt anyone specifically programmed it to recognise that abbreviation.

I think it even knew Pokemon ORAS on the day it was announced...

Sometimes I search for an obscure old game and the search throws no results because I didn't type it exactly as it is here. For example, there's a SNES game called GOD, it is actually spelled G.O.D, but Gamefaqs has it as G-O-D. I was about to submit a new game contribution because I thought the game wasn't listed.

Some way of submitting alternate names or abbreviations for a game would be good.

So we could submit something like Zelda BotW as an alternate name for Zelda Breath of the Wild as an example.
