I'm going to be treating myself to an Xbox One X next month but I have a question about how the backwards compatibility works with Xbox 360 games.

Do achievements and save files carry over and can be unlocked as if i was still playing on an Xbox 360 or is it just merely emulating the game with nothing that can be unlocked, carried or transfered over?

Also has the 4K blu ray player improved at all since the recent update? Half the reason I wanted an Xbox One was to watch 4K movies but I was reading blogs and forum posts saying it has a terrible UHD player compared to standalone models.
Have recent updates fixed that over time or would I be better off saving on the side for a regular standalone player?

Oh and one final question, (sorry). Exactly how big of an issue is storage space going to be?
I hear The Master Chief Collection has a huge filesize, especially with the 4K textures so I'm worried the 1TB it comes with isn't going to be enough.
I'm not planning to get a ton of use out of it. I really just want the Xbox for all the Halo and Forza games while steam and PS4 remain my go to for everything else, but I'm just worried The Master Chief Collection alone is going to take up most, if not all the hard drive space. Will it be an issue?

If your 360 saves are in the cloud then they carry over - I did have to move some to the cloud from my 360.

The UHD player was updated within a couple of weeks of release, it's decent.

The 4k updates are usually no more than a few gb, the 'double the size OMG' thing is a complete myth.

MCC you can choose which bits you have installed, it doesn't need to be the full 73gb. I personally have no issue being 1tb, but I don't need to have all the games I no longer play installed, never really understood why people do that.

360 games run within a virtual 360 environment, with about 95% of the functionality as if they were running on an actual 360 (certain options in the guide menu don't appear on the One, you can only save to the cloud, downloading DLC has to be done through the One's ready to install menus, not the emulated 360 menus, etc).

As for storage concerns, you can always add an external HDD fairly cheaply.

Thanks! Can you still earn Xbox 360 achievements though backwards compatibility? Or am I better off just playing on the original hardware?

Yes, achievements are exactly the same. Once the game starts it thinks that you're playing on a 360.

Nice! I'll play around with that. Thanks!
