I played the demo and I'm considering getting this game. I played Forza 2, 3, and 5 and they are all great in my opinion. But 7 seems to have terrible user reviews which makes me wonder, is it really so bad? What makes it a bad Forza game? Even its own board (which is inactive, that's why I'm posting here) seems to hate it.

Casuals like it but most vets of the series hate the changes that were made. Some changes were good like homologation but they removed features that have been a part of the series for years and made some ridiculous ones. You have 1 new track and a handful of new cars at launch plus there are a large number of cars that are locked. Over 70 of those are still locked 3 months after release with no way of getting them other than 3 cars per week in the specialty dealer, which has recycled the same few cars for the last month. Then you have all these off road vehicles with no off road tracks to race them on.

i think some cars are locked between loot boxes

No locked cars are obtainable from loot crates. There is no way to unlock them from. We have to wait until T10 decides we can have them and even then it's only 3 per week. Which for the last month or so are cars we've already had.

It doesn't hold up well compared to other "professional" arcade sim racers. Hell, you might as well get Forza Horizon 2/3, those games beat 100% of the racers out there.
Ooooh, that hurt like the dickens!

I've always just played Forza pretty casually, and for what it's worth I liked Forza 7 the same as 5 or 6 but for the X, it's worth it just to play Forza in 4K HDR 60 FPS. Racing sims generally make good tech demos for new hardware because they are easy to run well. It's just like how Forza 5 was a great way to show off the Xbox One when it first came out.

It’s a gorgeous game, especially at 4K. Gameplay is still very very fun. Although, I will say I don’t like the homologation crap. I haven’t felt the need to go in and mod a car on my own anymore because of it.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm probably pick it up anyways, I just like collecting cars in videogames. And judging by the demo the gameplay is still solid.
