I was worried about this before buying one, especially as I'm in a new house where the electric is on a meter. That said, I've not noticed any real increase in electric bill, and the benefits of using it are definitely worth the quid or two extra it's costing me.

I go to setting and turn it to low power mode every night though, as I'm at work the following day. So it's on low power from about 11pm til 6pm the following day, then on instant on for a few hours between then.

^^^You have to manually adjust those settings every time? Would be cool if it were on a timer. I would utilize that while I sleep or work.

There seems to be a difference of opinion, in this thread, about TV resolution changing if watching TV through the Xbox. Does it?

I know the Xbox One by itself uses up a lot of electricity, but does watching TV connected through the HDMI make it a lot worse? For those of you who do this, have you noticed a large increase in the bill? Watching TV through the Xbox is very convenient, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost.

It really doesn't though.

Why do you need the Xbox to watch TV?

At most, it would be only a few dollars more. These systems are built with energy saving in mind.

That is actually a huge misconception. People don't believe their cable boxes use up a lot of electricity, but they are the 2nd largest (behind Air conditioners) users of electricity. One cable box uses up around $8 on average of electricity a month, for those that have 2 or 3 boxes, that's upwards of $24 on the electric bill monthly just from their cable box. I believe (and I could be wrong) they have already said the PS4 & XB1 use a very high amount of electricity compared to previous generations. There is a reason you don't see energy star on the consoles.

Reports that both consoles use up to 3 times as much power as the PS3/X360

Like I said before this is easy to figure out. Look up power consumption figure for whatever device, multiply by estimated hours used, the multiply by the hourly rate you are charged.
