  3. Was piracy on the 360 really such a huge issue?

To force DRM on all consumers?

I know you can download 360 games on TPB but don't you need to have a modded xbox to play them anyways? I've known several people that pirate PC games and use ROMs but I don't know a single person who pirates modern console games.

PSP is the only system to ever be harshly impacted by piracy (at least in recent memory) and even that did fine in Japan.

I've only ever met one person who said they successfully pirate 360 games.

No, but used games were. They let gamers buy games at a lower price, and the publisher got none of it! It's not fair! They should be paying every time they turn on a console, let alone every time they buy a game!

If they are charging fees EVEN to resellers like Gamestop (like for Auth Codes so that retailers can even bother to sell used games) then this indicates Piracy was not really their real concern.

The piracy thing was always pretty much a smokescreen anyway.
I don't hate you. I wouldn't push you into the path of a moving train. I just don't like you; so I wouldn't pull you out of the way, either.

Piracy has never been an issue unless you add in DRM, in which case you have a reason to pirate: circumventing anti-consumer stuff. The more a game has abusive DRM, the more it gets pirated.

piracy will always exist
just like theft will always exist (and no they are not the same thing)
some people just dont give a hoot and will find ways around any law or policy

MS is just trying to secure their profits by insuring only the people who pay for the game get to play it...which is a shady approach to this community when gaming has largely been about sharing experiences.

It is Gamestop's fault for making it too easy to buy used games.

I'm not going to elaborate because I don't want a full argument. But piracy isn't the problem, just a scapegoat. This is about control. Microsoft wants to make money off used game sales, even though no one else gets to make money when good they sell are resold by others.

They think they can get away with it, so they're trying to.

I was asking in light of the 24 hr DRM connection, not the reselling of games.
