By 'no 3rd party support' I think you can clearly understand that I mean extremely weak one. GameCube had much better 3rd party support than Switch.

And yet the GameCube had IPs selling more than their 64 counterparts despite having superior 3rd party support. And again, the Wii and Switch have seen games/ports outdoing previous franchise benchmarks.

You're trying too hard to make a point. Again, if less games meant higher sales then why are launch titles never major sellers for new consoles? First party games don't exist in a vacuum, no one says "I have too many first part games I better buy some 3rd party ones to even things out".

What are those games for GameCube? As far as I remember almost all Nintendo IPs sold more on N64 than their GC counterparts.

And that's with the stigma of the GC sequels being considered worse than the N64 prequels back in the day. Most of the sales of the top selling 64 games fall in line with what the GC had after the top 5, with ~1 million offset.

The WiiU sold 1/3 of that the N64 did and yet they have similar sales numbers. Your argument doesn't hold up. Factor in the GC and it's really wonky.

Most of them sold at least on par with N64 counterparts (in terms of %), despite the bigger 3rd party support compared to N64.. Between the big titles, some of them had an attach rate of over 33%. Not trying to start all of this again, but we do have a point. The consoles where Nintendo had the worst 3rd party support (Wii U and N64), were the consoles with the weakest exclusives in terms of sales (despite the amazing lineup the N64 in particular had).

Smash: 7m gamecube and 5m on N64

Super Mario: Sunshine sold 7m, while Mario 64 sold 11m

MK: sold over 7m on gamecube and over 9m on N64

Wind Waker sold less than Ocarina of time!

Super Mario Sunshine - 6.3m
Super Mario 64 - 11M+

Zelda WW - 4.6m
Zelda Ocarina of Time - 7.6m

Mario Kart Double Dash - 7m
Mario Kart 64 - 9.8m

Paper Mario GameCube - 2.2m
Paper Mario 64 - 1.3m

F-Zero GX - 1.5m
F-Zero 64 - 1.1m

Star Fox GameCube - ~2m
Star Fox 64 - 4m

Wave Race GameCube - can't find info but seems to be lower than 1m.
Wave Race 64 - 2.9m

Can't find Animal Crossing for N64.

So the only games to do better are SSB, Paper Mario and F-Zero with just a tiny lead. Everything else sold more on N64.

Gamecube total sales: 22.86 million units
N64 total sales: 34.74 million

As you can see, Gamecube had a better attach rate on average, despite having more 3rd party competition. If the console sold on par with N64, it's exclusives would most likely sell more than the N64 counterparts. It's also worth mentioning that N64 had some of the most critically acclaimed games ever made, and a much stronger exclusive lineup.

edit: Smash also sold more on gamecube.

SNES 49m
N64 34m

Yet, Mario Kart 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time outsold their SNES counter parts. Also Mario 64 sold more than Mario All Stars.
