I have seen some people are under the impression that No Man's Sky generates creatures by just taking a premade animal and swapping the color palette. That is incorrect.

The game can change everything separately; eyes, head, legs, horns, scales, spikes, tails, patterns, size, and the proportions and colors of all these aspects, and more. So even if you see an animal with the same head as another one, it will be a different color and size with different patterns/horns/etc with a totally different body, so you probably wont even realize it.

Even the sounds, movements and behaviors of the creatures are different with each creature.

Alien NPCs and their languages are also procedurally generated, you will learn the languages by finding obelisks on planets that teach you them.

Ships are also procedurally generated, so every player will start with or can buy a completely unique ship in both appearance and handling. You'll probably notice some ships share some similar looking parts, which is what you'd expect with artificial objects.

In most of these pictures you will see a big picture of an animal or ship on the right and a bunch of smaller pics. The big picture is the 'starting point' or 'base' and the small pictures are some of the possible variations generated by the game. There is almost zero chance you will encounter any of these exact creatures personally.

Examples of possible ships. Sorry I couldn't find many pictures showing the ship generation.

Examples of animals. Most of these are variations of a goat-like creature. The game also can make lizard, snake, butterfly, bipedal, fish, bird, dinosaur, completely alien, and all sorts of other type of creatures. These pics show only a few variations but there are millions more possible variations.

As you can see, they all look different, and these don't even show the other types of animals mentioned previously.

If this is the tip of the iceberg, I think the game can keep looking fresh for a long while.

Good information, thanks.

I didn't know the ships could be randomly generated. That'll make for some interesting "show my first ship off" threads on the internet.

That's so epic. i remember reading a quote from the creator where he said something along the lines of "you can spend 20 years on one planet and not run out of new stuff to see." It's mind boggling.
"Your confusion is like venom spreading through me. I shall vanquish you if I happen upon you. Be forewarned."

Hmm i don't know about 20 years, but yeah you'd most likely get bored of a planet and fly off to find a new fresh one way before you see everything on it.

Yeah I imagine you'd eventually get bored, but think about earth. You could spend 20 years walking around earth and there would still be new stuff to see. And yet a lot of that "new stuff" would just be more forests or more canyons. But it's still forests and canyons you haven't seen yet.
