There's someone who's convinced that you can't beat Normal (especially the final boss) on your first playthrough without

A.) Overpowered DLC Garbs
B.) Spamming Overclock with Ethers

We're talking normal play through and the final boss; Aeronite and Ereshkigal aren't included in this debate. How many of you have been able to complete your first playthrough of the game on Normal without resorting to either of the above on the final boss?

I'll be the first to say I have.

I took 4 overclocks for his final form, that's all. No ether.

Normal mode is pretty easy, people who struggle at this game must not be paying attention to the information they're given in the game. Most quests tell you exactly where to go and when and the main quests have the locations that you need marked out for you. It's a pretty easy game overall except for the bosses which can be challenging if you don't use the battle system to it's fullest, I didn't struggle with Bhunivelze but Caius certainly gave me pause for example.

Yeah, I used 3 or 4 Overclocks too. The point isn't to spam them, but to use them when you run out of ATB on all of your garbs.

For people who haven't beaten the game on their first play through, feel free to ask for any help or tips here -- I'm sure there'll be more than enough people who can help you out.

Fought all the bosses without First Soldier after beating them horribly the first time with it.
Obviously it takes much longer to win but still wasn't too bad.

OC was used only when ATB-starved otherwise I didn't really use it.

Of course once Jungle Hunter with Atremis Pierce comes into play, difficulty went out the window if you know how to use it right.

So yes, Normal Mode first playthrough is possible.

I just beat the game today. It was my first playthrough (I did do quite some side-quests I believe somwhere arround 60). Had no problems with the final fight. I bought a lot of potions and Phoenix downs (not even had to use all of them).

Maybe I was lucky but I found the final boss pretty easy compared to other bosses (I'm looking at you Wild Lands boss </3).

If you can't perfect guard you can't

Easy example is from a reavers big jump slash

Unguarded 1200

Guarded 600

Perfect guard 100

Perfect guards make a huge difference

If by 'can't' you mean you don't even get lucky sometimes, then maybe, but I sucked at guarding for a good 90% of the game

I beat normal first playthrough without any trouble. Only used a handful of ethers throughout the game, almost never used overclock, and never used any of the DLC garbs.

I did abuse chronostasis, but all that did was let me finish up everything by day 8, so its not like I wouldn't have had time to finish otherwise.

So basically no, the game is only "impossible" to beat normal first playthrough if you're bad at it.
