We farm for gear that gives +1 or 2 to our weapon DPS and a few extra stat increases on armor / accessories and wait until the next patch drops?

That seems... boring. The act of actual raiding in this game is fun, but the loot is just.. boring.

WoW, ESO, even freaking Runescape does gear better.

Thank God the game is so polished.

Yes, but Flame and other morons will come in and try to defend it.

Though, to be fair, that is just the cycle from an endgame PVE standpoint and yes, the gear isn't exciting. It is the biggest flaw in the PVE in this game.

yyyup. welcome to "end-game". believe it or not, this game is designed around unsubbing. soooo come back in a few patches or wait until the next expansion. if you don't want to or can't get a group to run high end s*** with, there's nothing left.

and that's the issue. gear shouldn't be the point, but it shouldn't also not be the point. gear is a major factor in rpgs. it's why there's a whole sub-genre where loot flies out of enemies' asses when they die. gear is fun.

in this game, there are no sets, no builds, no deep character progression and really...no character progression at all. every dark knight is the same with minor number differences. every white mage is the same with minor number differences. that's one reason the experience of being maximum level here is so shallow - it lacks what most other games have and have had for a long time.

sure, but if skill is the only deciding factor, there's no reason gear should exist. every character may as well be playing on templates. while we're at it - levels are pointless as well.

It's to give people higher number which is psychologically proven to increase excitement

That +2 to weapon damage actually gives you a rather notable increase in actual damage.

None of those gains are insignificant. They might seem small but they just aren't.

That being said, if you don't like this type of endgame, mmos aren't for you, nor is any gaas.

This is the industry standard, psychologist approved, best way to retain human subjects.

and in most, if not all other games of the same or similar genre, there are other factors besides raw numbers that are effective at doing that - things ff14 lacks. horizontal progression, set bonuses, resistances, weapon effects, skill points, and skill trees are all missing.

the "higher number" thing only really comes into effect when applying a massive change in ilvl which doesn't happen at end-game. new piece? great. +12 strength. how much harder we hitting now? oh, not at all.
