Taken from the Wiki:

Within the first twenty-four hours, Square Enix reported that Final Fantasy XV had shipped five million units worldwide in both physical shipments and digital sales—a figure which allowed the game to "break even" on development costs.[135] This gave Final Fantasy XV the biggest launch in the franchise to date, the most first day digital sales in Japan for a game up to that point, and set records for physical shipments and downloads in mainland Asia.[136] Commenting on the large numbers, Tabata revealed that the strong sales saved the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole, which had seen declining commercial success in recent years.[137] According to Square Enix, shipments had reached over six million worldwide by January 2017.[138] In May of the same year, Square announced the game and Rise of the Tomb Raider helped to increase sales and profits for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.[139] In a later interview, Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura stated that the game had sold seven million copies worldwide by January 2018, ranking it as a "huge success".[140] By September 2018, that total, which included the Windows version, had surpassed 8.1 million.[141]

I was going based off of what was said in the other topic and my own initial review where I admit I got hung up on the first line of that paragraph stating that it had "broken even". I am not sure when the other information got updated, but I should have read a bit more closely because I did make the wrong conclusion since I didn't read it thoroughly.
Currently playing - Hyper Light Drifter, Octopath Traveler, Crosscode, Battle Chasers - Nightwar, Undertale, FFXIV:SB

FFXV was a terrible game, and not just the story which was really phoned in there at the end but there were a lot of things mechanically that were poor choices. However a lot of players and myself enjoyed the weird roller coaster of it looking back. It was certainly an experience for people who have been fans of the series. It definitely got a community of players together.
Square will keep 11 servers online longer than these.

I feel like the people saying this game is dying is just trying to pull more subs to WoW cause that is the only mmo that's dying.

Its not dying, at all. Its pretty healthy. I do feel its at its prime at the moment, and wont grow a lot anymore in terms of population, not necessarily a bad thing, but i do feel it wont gain too much new players anymore. This is just my opinion, im not stating facts or such.

prime was HW, I do see falling off slowly, like the mid-ATU days for FFXI (in my view the savage bans spend things up, then the 80 + cap areas having a different crowd interest then the original prob continued the fall off) how long ill last is who knows but I do not understand how this game can continue much longer (6.0+) off 1.0 code limitations and server limitations while on the same cycles and keep copy/paste/reskinning hw.
