This topic is to cover all of our bases when it comes to questions with the common knowledge we have gathered in the last.....month or so (more if you've been playing the JP version).

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
What is Warriors Orochi 3?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Warriors Orochi 3 is the sequel to Warriors Orochi, and Warriors Orochi Z (2). The game is set in an alternate timeline/dimension that the evil snake god person Orochi made by melding different times together (namely Sengoku (Samurai Warriors), and the Three Kingdoms period (Dynasty Warriors) ). Has 130+ characters, too many stages to count, and 3 branching endings. On to the good stuff like the questions everyone asks

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
What are bonds?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Bonds are a game mechanic that is utilized to deliver weapon drops, double musous, and in some cases extra stages. Included is also some extra, dialogue between some characters. There are 3 stages to bonds, defined by color, orange (lowest), yellow (middle), and green (highest). The each stage requires 333 and 1/3 points to advance.

Raising bonds is simple, there are a few methods to raise them, and we shall discuss them here. First, the most forgotten method; the group of 3 characters you choose will increase the bonds between them by 40 points ( I believe its 40 clarification would be nice). The second method, missions; you can increase the bonds between your team and the characters that offer missions by successfully completing them. The third, and by far easiest method (eventually) is by use of the Tea Party. When you reach chapter 4 the tea house will upgrade and get an option called a moon viewing which increases the bond between the currently controlled character and anyone else by 150 points for 3000 Gems. I found that doing 2 moon viewings (6000 gems), and a battle is the easiest way to max out the first stage of a bond (the requirement for some extra missions is a bond at least at level 1). Rinse and repeat for a fast way to increase bonds.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
What are big star weapons, and are they better than my fourth star weapon?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Big star weapons, commonly referred to as joke/rare/special/ultimate weapons, are usually the best weapons a character can get. They start off at a low attack level, but by using them you can increase a characters's compatibility with the weapon, granting a whopping +54 attack bonus. This is why, for most characters, a big star weapon is best. The exceptions to this rule are Lu Bu, Keji Maeda, Tadakatsu Honda, Orochi, Orochi X, and Susanoo; whose 4th weapons (which receive a +18 attack boost from full compatibility) are better than the Big Star weapon by 2-4 points.

Big Star weapons also cost a random number of gems (usually 20000 or more) and crystals (usually 3 or more). Yes this is what those crystals are for. Which brings us to our next topic.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Crystals and gems
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Crystals are used exclusively for the purchase of big star weapons, and no they can not be traded for gems. Crystals are received by performing a True Triple Atack (or TTA) on enemy officers on Normal difficulty or harder. The other way is by submitting an edited stage to Musou Battlefields and it being rated by others, OR downloading others battlefields and clearing them.

Gems are the main currency in this game. They are received from felling enemies, TTA, and clearing stages.

Lu Bu
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Yes, he is in this game, why can't you unlock him? Because there is a special way of doing it that is slightly mentioned in dialogue that you are unable to have repeated. With Diao Chan unlocked and in your party, head to chapter 3's Siege of Osaka Castle, and make sure Lu Bu lives until he switches to your side. Then clear the stage and the man is yours.

Other notable unlock characters are Sun Wukong, Orochi, Orochi X, Nezha, Dodomeki, Gyuki, Susanoo, and Kiyomori Taira. These characters are unlocked by clearing the 3 endings in the game. (This requires unlocking all the other characters).

-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Who did Tecmo-Koei bring in this installment?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Everyone from Dynasty Warriors 7 / Xtreme Legends, and Dynasty Warriors 5 in the case of Zuo Ci. As well as everyone from all 3 installments of Samurai Warriors 3. They also included all characters added so far in the Warriors Orochi world; Yosh!tsune Minamoto, Kiyomori Taira, Da Ji, Taigong Wang, Fu Xi, Nu Wa, Himiko, Sun Wukong, Orochi, Orochi X, Gyuki, and Dodomeki.

New characters are as follows

Kagyua, a mystic who has the ability of time travel. Wields branches, mirrors, and lasers.

Nezha, a mystic and right hand man (yes a man) of Susanoo. Wields spinning discs.

Susanoo, leader of the mystic forces (assumed). Wants to imprison Orochi for eternity. Wields a Sword specifically crafted for snake killing :D

Shuten-Doji, part of Orochi, wields a giant gord.

Ryu Hayabusa, from the famed Ninja Gaiden series of which he is the star character. Introduced in the Battle of Anegawa. Anegawa has parts of modern day Japan mixed into the map.

Joan of Arc, from Bladestorm: The Hundred Year war, introduced in the Battle of Mt Dingjun. Dingjun has parts of Medieval Europe mixed into the map.

Achilles, from Warriors: Legends of Troy, introduced in the Battle of Nanzhong. Nanzhong has parts of Greek Architecture mixed in, as well as a Trojan Horse.

Nemea, from Trinity: Souls of Zill o'll, introduced in the Battle of Kyushu. Kyushu has parts of the Zill o'll world mixed into it.

and finally

Ayane, from Dead or Alive, as well as Ninja Gaiden, introduced in the Battle of Hasedo. Hasedo has parts of Dead or Alive in it.

Horses, and Rare Items?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
You might be wondering how to unlock a new mount for use in this game since a level 10 cavalier won't net you red hare/matsukaze anymore. Look no further, for here in Gamefaq's very own cheats section, is the list for ALL THE RARE ITEMS IN THE GAME!
But I will post the Red Hare & Matsukaze requirements. In order to get any rare items you must be on hard or chaos difficulty.

Red Hare
Chapter 3: Battle of Fan Castle – With at least one of these charscters in your party, Xu Huang, Wang Yi, Joan of Arc, or Kojiro Sasaki, 1500 K.O.s. A golden box will appear in front of you when you reach the k.o count.

Matsukaze
Chapter 3: Battle of Honnoji – With as least one of these characters Musashi Miyamoto, Mitsunari Ishida, or Ayane, 1500 K.O.s. A golden box will appear in front of you when you reach the k.o. count.

I, the great esteemed Rose, takes time to provide you with questions, whilst I could be counting my money, and you fail to mention/praise/worhsip me or even provide me with erotic and sexual images of me, Xaldin007 and Spider-man engaging in a threesome in your FAQ?!

You have failed me. And relatedly, I have failed my money. They have provided me with much love, happiness and porn, and I decided to turn my attention from them, to YOU?!

Nice job, sticky requested.

Do you know anything about the hidden abilities in the big star weapons? I've searched and couldn't find a list anywhere. Some of them (like the one for Musahsi and also one of the swords that Ryu can use) definitely have a range bonus build in. And I think Ayene's big star daggers have some sort of whirlwind effect that pulls people into her combos. Those are just the ones I've noticed.
