I think the problem starts on the MH portable 3rd on PSP, here's some quote from some ppl from 3DS board:

"And Sony basically almost canned the localization of it here in the West because they wanted to change the AdHoc Party and make it more "Sony Friendly" with Achievements and Trophys and have it make use of PSN, etc. etc. Long story short Sony wanted to make a bunch of changes Capcom didnt like"

"From what I recall, you have it backwards. MHP3rd used some sort of network feature in JP that NA didn't have, and for Capcom to localize it, Sony's NA network MUST support it. Needless to say Sony of America did not take to it kindly. I don't blame them though, who would change an entire infrastructure just to accommodate a single game, even if it is a monster of a game?"

Hmm....2 conflicting statements there. but I think the correct one is the first, because looking at the current 3DS release, it doesnt even have any network support or online play. it retains a local wireless play similar to MHFU.
Anyway, Sony really stuffed up badly by losing MH franchise. and look at the sales of 3DS in Japan Now! last gen, PSP did very very well in Japan, but now VITA sells so poorly.

You realize that's probably fake, right? The link and story I mean, as it hasn't been confirmed.
Alolan Trinen confirmed.

The second story is the one you'll see everywhere, and the most believable.

Basically, P3rd didn't work on Ad Hoc Party without a massive update only Japan got. P3rd HD used Ad Hoc Party for it's online play as well. Sony also requires all PS3 releases to have trophies in the US, on top of that, which Capcom didn't want to add.

It all boils down to Sony directly blocking an overseas release of P3rd and P3rd HD by refusing to update the North American Ad Hoc Party servers.

I don't think there'd be in-detail official confirmation about this kind of problem.

and...Throphies are lame....it adds nothing!

Nintendo is a more successful gaming company, as simple as that.
There is a rumor however, that these super rare elusive never before seen things called ¨Vita¨ exist somewhere out there, but no one has seen them yet

Sony wanted Capcom to pay for the Ad hoc party update and Capcom wanted Sony to pay for the Ad hoc party update.

You can't really say Sony "directly" blocked it because they could have paid to update and maintain adhoc party if they really wanted the game to come. But I do understand why Capcom wouldn't want to pay for the update since the program is used by many non-Capcom games.
