Konami can kiss my ass.
f*** Konami.
Long story short, on the Wii U eshop, back in early 2018 Konami put out Jaseiken Necromancer, A.K.A: Necromancer (a turn based RPG game that came out for the PC Engine, the Japanese counterpart to the Turbografx-16, during 1988).

I love classic 8 bit and 16 bit RPGs and I just found out that Necromancer is on the Wii U eshop for only $5.99 this morning. Okay, that sounds great, so I bought it this morning.

And then I played Necromancer.... and the f***ing game is in JAPANESE!!!! What the f***?!? Surely there is no way Konami would release a Japanese text heavy, turn based RPG in the North America without an option for English text... right? RIGHT?!? Well....

There is no mother f***ing English!!!!
NONE!!!!!

(and no, the opening title screen doesn't f***ing count. LMAO)

The game is f***ing UNTRANSLATED!!!! And this is a turn based RPG (and it's VERY text heavy), meaning that it's the type of game that is IMPOSSIBLE to play if you can't read Japanese. THE GAME IS f***ING UNPLAYABLE without an English translation for English only gamers.

This is f***ed up. Can I get a refund? I'm 99% certain I can't get a refund since I'm pretty sure the eshop doesn't offer refunds. This is f***ed up beyond belief. KONAMI CAN KISS MY ASS for releasing this game like this (I want my f***ing $6 back, f***ing Konami!!!).

In case you are wondering, the description of the game does NOT mention the game is in Japanese text only until you reach the TINY (and I mean TINY) f***ing fine-print of the description (the second page of the eshop purchase page... in TINY fine print on the bottom. It's also on the very bottom of Nintendo's website featuring the game... in TINY fine print). See what I mean:

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/necromancer-wii-u/

It should be STRONGLY noted that they slapped the Turbografx-16 logo on this game on the eshop. Turbografx-16 was the North American counterpart to the PC Engine (which is the Japanese version of the system). Turbografx-16 games were in ENGLISH for obvious reasons. HOW THE f*** are they going to slap a North American Turbografx-16 logo on an untranslated Japanese RPG?!?!?
I'm not the only one who got f***ed over by Konami. This guy on Youtube goes through the same bulls*** I am currently going through (f*** Konami !!!)

Yeah, they should have made it apparent that the game was never translated. Poor form for Nintendo too for allowing it on the eShop this way. I think that's why the star rating on the eShop listing is so low.

Anyway, someone made a walkthrough, so maybe that will help you.

@yahya_no_1

It's highly true (didn't you see the link to Nintendo's website in the opening post? Granted, one can easily miss that super small fine print message if you don't carefully check out the entire page). The Youtube video also confirms this. If you still have access to the Wii U eshop, it can also be easily confirmed there as well (even though it might take a little searching before you find the fine print message as it's extremely easy to miss. If you got $6 to throw away, feel free to buy Necromancer and attempt to play it as you see it in it's untranslated glory). There were also a few websites who were completely baffled by Konami releasing Necromancer untranslated on the American Wii U. I have that game when I bought a PC Engine bundled with about 40 games back on ebay some years ago. It's impossible to get far in Necromancer if you can't read Japanese (luckily, it was only one of two games out of 40 that I couldn't play for that reason.

Tech Times reported:

"However, it is bizarre that Necromancer, a horror role-playing game, remains untranslated and the fact that it was ported to a console that is on its way out."

Nintendolife said:

"This is a Horror RPG game and the description on the eShop says its Japanese only and only recommended for those that understand the language. That's...certainly something. Konami brings us a game 90% of us can't even play unless we can read Japanese, and very good too being an RPG. XD
Its interesting, yet I just wonder why they thought it was worth bothering with a release at all since most of us won't be able to play it...."

*I am at work*

I mean I am happy dump as Konami is, to keep releasing games for the WiiU, but on the same time.......what are they doing......oO? at least offer fans to sub it, or pay the fan subs for the existing translated of it's ROM

idk, but if they can keep releasing more old games that are less text heavy, I don't mind if it's in Japn or not

Ever since the new leadership of Konami took over some years ago (earlier this decade of the 2010's), they have been slowly destroying the company that the previous leader of Konami spent three decades building during the 80's, 90's and 2000's. The new leadership fired Hideo Kojima, messed up certain parts of Metal Gear Solid 5 (for example: that game isn't fully finished but Konami forced a release anyway), abruptly cancelled the new Silent Hills game Kojima was working on prior to getting fired, declared mobile games with an emphasis on micro-transactions and gambling pachinko machines were it's primary future, releasing Metal Gear Survive (which was an abomination), refused to let Kojima accept an award for MGS 5 (or else legal action would be taken), treating their employees horribly behind the scenes, treating fans horribly (for example: Konami makes gamers who bought Metal Gear Survive pay $10 for a second save file in Metal Gear Survive. $10 for a save file!!), etc, etc, etc.

Releasing Necromancer (which is a horror RPG game some hardcore RPG fans wanted to play since it was one of the first games for the PC Engine and even had H.R Giger, famous for Alien, contribute to the game) for the Wii U eshop in 2018 and NOT translating it is a travesty. Making sure to cover up it wasn't translated by only mentioning that in a small fine print that anyone could easily miss and not giving any indication beyond that in that the game was not translated is a travesty (they made sure to show screen shots NOT showing any text on the eshop, showing the title screen that is the only thing in that game that is in English and even added the Turbografx-16 logo to this eshop release, falsely implying it was in English since real Turbografx-16 titles are in English, PC Engine is Japanese). Shame on Konami for doing this and I'm also going to say shame on Nintendo for even allowing Konami to do this on the Wii U eshop.

During early 2015 is when Komani got their new CEO, Hideki Hayakawa, and that's when everything went to s*** at Konami. As far as I'm concerned, that guy can kiss my ass for this Necromancer untranslated bulls*** (as well as all the other s*** he caused) and whoever else is in charge of Konami now can kiss my ass. Why?

The Wii U North American release of Necromancer is something I would expect from something like the Google Playstore from some no-name mobile gaming company. I expect bulls*** on the Playstore, but I wasn't expecting bulls*** like this from f***ing KONAMI (which is a huge gaming company in business since the Atari 2600 days who also runs casinos and other things in the gambling industry, so I know they have f***ing money to get a translator for this f***ing game) on the eshop owned by Nintendo (who seriously needs to hire someone f***ing competent in charge of the eshop who won't allow bulls*** like this to be released). And looking at the way they showcased the game (purposely not showing any screenshots with text, the TINY as f*** fine print, the misuse of the Turbografx-16 logo, etc) Konami knew full damn well they were being shady as f***. Well... f*** Konami!!! f*** Konami into oblivion. I will be f***ing damned to hell if I ever buy one of their games brand new again, and I've been playing their games since the NES days. Sadly, with the new pieces of s*** they have in charge of the company now days, it's not the same Konami I grew up with.

Ironically enough I can't see any usage of kanji in the gameplay video, only hiragana and kataka, this is quite unusual...
I mean you could go hardcore and try and learn japanese to be able to play the game, or translate the whole thing bit by bit. But you do need to be able to read hiragana and katakana. This could be quite an experience, you'd learn a new language and enjoy a game not many westerners have played. how long to beat indicates it's 30 hours long though
I enjoyed my life when I had nothing... and kinda like the idea of just being happy with me.

Kanji was difficult on older consoles. It needs to be printed larger to be legible, and the number of characters eats up limited RAM very fast.

Besides this is nothing new. A number of Wii VC games, and PSN PS1 games, were untranslated or only partial translations (Sin & Punishment translated the menus, but left the subtitles Japanese).

Games like Heroine Dream don't clearly indicate they're in Japanese.

THE GAME IS f***ING UNPLAYABLE

For you only right now.
Learn Japanese.

What is this even?
"Oh no, those bad companies with their region locking, I will not be able to play these games."
"Oh no, those bad companies with their Japanese text, I will not be able to play these games."
