And this is the number 1 reason why Vita failed.

Vita has em, so you're wrong there.
The problem is on Sony's side, including taking away system sellers and going too far with anti-piracy (memory card prices and monopoly, account restrictions, fusing saves into the game)

What system sellers does Vita have? Only Vita game ever remotely considered in GotY awards was a upgraded PS2 port from 5 years ago

In the West, Vita has more problems than Carter has pills (to take a really old expression that probably only dancer62 will appreciate).
Lack of popular Western Mainstream titles is very likely to be one of them. Lack of realistic advertising on Sony's part another. Memory card prices yet another. Sony's whole "console quality on the go" thing at launch that never really materialized in the way Sony wanted early in its life... you know, for those that aactually knew what a Vita was. That Westerners, as a collective, prefer playing on TVs far more than on portable systems. All kinds of stuff like that.

What potential system sellers the Vita did possess went under the radar for too many people. Soul Sacrifice is f***ing awesome, but it got no real advertisement at all from Sony.
So, even if the Vita has system sellers, it's up to the consumers to figure out what they are, since they aren't readily obvious to anyone, and Sony doesn't care enough to make them easy to find either.
... and for many Western gamers, seeing all the Japan-imation styled games may well make them think "You know what? Never mind" even without finding out about the games.

If good exclusives was what it took to sell systems WiiU would have been a big success. Vita suffered from lack of brand recognition. Not having games that would create buzz is part of that. But, Xbox has next to nothing for exclusives and Xbone is doing okay. It's complex and if any of us knew exactly how to move console units we'd be working at Sony or MS and making millions.

Part of that is being tied into the infrastructure. It's been that way since things started going into the digital age.
If you and your friends are all playing on XBox Live, it makes sense to follow that into the next generation. Add to that any digital titles that can be potentially used on the next system... it's why Android users tend to stick with Android phones, and iPhone users with iPhones.

It's very different than when the PS2 and GameCube were relevant, where it's easy to switch consoles in the next generation (backward compatibility notwithstanding).
I had the majority of my games on the PS2 (despite having all three consoles) back then. I got a 360 because it was getting all the franchises I liked on PS2 and it was released sooner, and at a more reasonable price.

It's probably why everyone on this board would say things like "What, you don't have a PS3? You shouldn't have a Vita then! You're doing it wrong!" in the earlier days.
