I've been having alot of problems lately with after playing for a little while alot of textures start turning purple. What I have gathered reading a couple forums is that this problem is caused by the game running out of memory, which would make sense. I have a ****load of mods installed. I was wondering if short of deleting some of my bigger mods/turning down settings/etc there was a way of fixing this? One of the old forums i read said that this could fix it, but the file has since been hidden.

Im also not much of an expert when it comes to computers/modding so forgive me if i come off a bit noobish.

You're running out of VRAM (video memory) not RAM. Use lower resolution texture mods and use less graphical enhancements.

well your computer stats would be helpful in determining what the actual cause is.

You can use SMCO (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13529/?) or Optimizer Textures (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12801/?) to compress your texture files, whether they're high res or low res. That should help no matter what.
