I have a galaxy S7 edge and I pretty much only use it to text and make phone calls.

But my job has a lot of downtime and I've been finding that I would like to play turned based type of RPG to pass the time.
I'm a huge fan of the Dragon Warrior type of turn based RPGs as well as those like Final Fantasy III on the SNES.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Oh, and I've tried googling this stuff and I keep getting tactical/strategy type of turn based games that I don't like.

Well, Phantasy Star II is free on the play store. Although if you're a fan of old school rpgs, you've probably already played it.

If you really like FF and DQ, it might be worth investing a bit into DQ and FF games on Android. The DQ 4-6 trilogy is a port of the DS games with better music, and the mobile version of FFIII is a DS port, again, with uncompressed music. (I'm not suggesting later FFs, since they use the ATB system, and could screw you up if your job downtime suddenly ends)

There's also a mobile version of DQ 8... but it's terrible (And really, if you want a portable version of DQ8, you really should get the Nintendo 3DS version)

Free, none. Paid there are a bunch, final fantasies, dqs, secret of Mana, Chrono trigger, etc. But, the only free I can recommend is emulators, assuming you "own" the games you emulate.

I never played any of them apart from the one on the PSP. Can't remember which one it was but it was only a demo.

KEMCO has quite a decent handful of high-rating free RPGs.

They'll hit you with a lotta ads though. Gotta pay to play or else you'll be swimming in ads.

That still doesn't make it legal though. Even if you're playing the backups that you made yourself. Not that I really care, just saying that playing games on an emulator you just download is generally illegal.

In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow.

Alternatively, turn internet off while playing & no ads.... :D
