  3. You know what i hate about this and all SF games?

the community!
first this is a GREAT GAME!!! more "new" people are coming in and trying to learn its mechanics. most of you don't realize this game is 11 or 12 years old so most of you were either small children "IF" you played the original. if you did play it and got good then great for you, but stop bashing new comers for being easy to beat. give the game a few weeks so people can get a hang of parrying and footsies ect. i don't want this to turn out like it did in the past and the ONLY people playing are elitist butt holes. sadly i see the same group of elitist butt holes that roam from SF to SF trolling beginners. i hear it in lobbies. people complaining about shotos and trying to zone and blah blah blah!

understand people go for the characters they are familiar with after waiting in a looooong lobby. if you want them to get better then offer to spar with them instead of flaming them and making them not want to play. i hate the SF community because most of you act as if SF is some religion and you HAVE TO PLAY A CERTAIN WAY to be considered worthy. this is BS! the most fun games like mvc3 were was in that first month (even with sent spam) when people were still trying to figure things out. then here comes pro tournies and youtube/eventhubs/SRKforums etc. and all we get is teir characters. then after that egos go through the roof. if i'm a fighter and your a 7th lord and i manage to win you suck? yea crap like that.

all i'm asking is can you elitist and douche bags lay off the new comers and let them enjoy the experience so the online doesnt COMPLETELY DIE when umvc3 or SFxT gets released? please
If YOU have to talk crap online to make YOURSELF feel better, then its obvious YOU have daddy issues! "sad face"

My experience with the community would probably be different, i wouldn't have stuck around for so long if it wasn't as welcoming as it is.

Being around the originals since i was 16 i actually remember, and still see this now, that this is one of the fighting communities where the genuinely good, genuinely high-level players are actually some of the friendliest of the lot.

For one they've either progressed past, or have the common sense to veer away from all the bickering about "cheap this, cheap that" that wastes everyone elses time and spreads false information to new players especially.

They do tend to want a new generation too, or welcome back old players with open arms.

-

It's very rare i've seen someone who really knows the games in and out actually be a twit or an elitist, they do exist and perhaps stand out as a vocal minority when you encounter one...but overall, ranging from beginners looking to learn, to diehard veterans who stick with the Sirlin mantra, it tends to be a good community.

-

To contrast i've seen the "elitism" tag thrown around as a crutch, especially when a player is attempting to dispell myths about "honour rules" or "cheap tricks".

-

The community can be quite defensive, but that's understandable, i mean look how much disinformation is spread as fact in the early days of a fighting games life, with frustrated players claiming "so and so is overpowered" and cantering in demanding the games pander to their own execution issues.

-
Overall i'd say the community is very willing to help new and returning players alike, provided they extend common courtesies to the existing playerbase.

Mortal Kombat players are more aggravating.

Also, where's your passion? You come here to FIGHT and WIN. You've got no business here if you're going to fall to pieces just because the community demands better of you.
Remember: it's time for games to cost $100.

TC has a point. All the way up to this game's re-release, you saw nothing but people saying stuff like, "Heh, let's see the SF4 and MVC3 scrubs deal with a REAL game." Most of these people suck at those games, but the truth of the matter is that a lot of these people tend to look down on newer players because they either like or just started with those games. These same people will wonder why the online population will decrease when UMVC3 or SFxT come out.

I don't bash new comers I welcome them. In fact I've made a thread that I've dedicated to helping them.

Through 2011, Wii's third party support was on par with or better than PS3's -Terotrous (Wii U board)

TC has a point . I am glad 3rd strike is out for Live . Two years of having to see constant bashing on the SF4 series . Maybe the insults will reduce .

Couldn't you argue a lot of the bashing and negativity in general is just the usual "forum idiocy" though?

I've played with these much maligned "cliques" in England for example, and although they enjoy high-level play and are better than average, there's still that sense of perspective there; That it is at the end of the day, still just a game, albiet one these individuals know a fair bit about.

I've noticed fairly decent players are often the first to be subjected to unrealistic criticism, like the whole "get a life" nonsense you might hear when you've parried the latest telegraphed Super fireball. So the negativity often goes both ways, lots of the jibes you might see on the forums for example, they're usually just replies in turn to particularly rude individuals.

-

The "cliques" i've played in close ranks, not because they want to see the scene stagnate or some dislike of new players, it's just that online is a lottery. It gets grating when you're accused of cheating and being "cheap" for example.

In many ways the best way to enjoy the game in peace, especially in an "anything goes" manner is close ranks, in that way there's no criticism of your character choice or preferred playstyle, especially amongst veterans who never heard the terms "spam or turtle" until they signed up to an online forum.

It's not just forum idiocy. The very first tournament I went to (was for BlazBlue) I mentioned that the first fighting game I'd ever legitimately tried to play was SF4, and like 5 people all looked at me and told me that I was a scrub and should just leave, lol. Makes it all the more satisfying to smash them. =D

But what one of the above posters said is right; it tends to be the pretty average/bad players that act that way.

The problem with SF is capcom.

They design a game that has esoteric mechanics and fiddly inputs. Sure you can learn how to play and get good. But that requires a lot of practise - ie patience. People play games to have fun. Learning is cool, but when you have a game that's this esoteric and a community that's insular it's a recipe for disaster. New players will get put off and so the community will remain insular and unfriendly. it's the same for every SF game and I bet the 'pro' players love it. Unfortunately these people are bad adverts for gaming; capcom has kow towed to all their idiosyncracies and the games have suffered. The game play should be about second guessing your opponent and trying to out manoeuvre him. It shouldn't be about who can land the enormous game breaking combo first or who knows the cross up exploit instant air super cheat move that shouldn't exist.

Capcom really are among the worst game developers alive today.

not only that but the online for the game is either dead already or broken.
