Howdy all. You might have noticed some occasional changes to GameFAQs Answers over the past month. As we have rolled out the last large changes today, I wanted to go ahead and highlight all of the changes that have been made over the past month, including those from today.
First, we made a few improvements to the Expert status that is earned by answering multiple questions for the same game. First of all, we added multiple levels (Gold/Silver/Bronze) to the system to reward Experts who continue to share their expertise for a given game. We also created a new page where you can view every Expert for a game instead of only being able to see the top few. Finally, we added extra information to the top Experts list on the Answers door page as well as moving the list higher up the page for better visibility.
Speaking of moving things around, we also moved up all Answers content on a game's Home page, making it more visible. In addition, we added a Popular Questions module to the site's homepage to highlight popular answered and unanswered questions.
This leads to the next improvement, which is removing the old confusing categories of Recent, Unresolved, and Answered. Instead, a question is now simply Answered (meaning there's any answer given at all) or Unanswered. Questions also no longer lock when an answer is chosen by the question asker but instead stay open indefinitely, allowing anyone to go in and add a new answer at any time. The top voted answer is now determined and highlighted in real time as well. The latter change means that we can no longer consider the top voted answer when we're awarding badges for accepted answers, but this is something that was being abused and was going to be removed anyway.
Continuing on, you can now leave a comment on both questions and answers. Also due to questions no longer locking, you can leave comments even after an answer has been accepted. This can be helpful in cases where the answer might not apply anymore due to game updates, fixed glitches, and so on, to inform anyone who lands on the page that this solution might not work anymore.
Another big change is that we removed the double page load factor from a lot of pages. For example, you can now report a question or answer right on the page in a popup without having to go to a separate page to do so. You can also leave comments and answers without another page load as well. In addition, many of the pages found under the Answers hub now load on a single page as well and have massive improvements made to their functionality, using simple dropdowns to choose exactly what content you want to see. Another similar change was replacing the upvote and downvote icons with new icons that work immediately without a page reload and that persistently show your chosen vote anytime you revisit the page.
Finally, a few more small changes. When you answer a question, you can now easily subscribe to Answers for that game and be informed when new questions are asked via a checkbox under the answer box. Also, we changed the way we sort certain parts of Answers. If you're viewing a question, the answers are now sorted by upvotes. Also, when viewing all answered questions for a game, the questions are sorted by when the last answer was given rather than alphabetically (sigh...), as they were before.
