I'm playing this game on the Super NES Classic, if that makes any difference. At the end of each level, I keep noticing that my party members always seem to have full health even if I shot at them a lot and had them acknowledge it. I'm wondering why the game doesn't penalize me for friendly fire. It must either be that they somehow fully healed by the end of the levels, or the game is just not acknowledging that I'm shooting at my allies. What exactly is the reason for me seemingly getting away with attacking them?

Unlike Star Fox 64, you can repeatedly wail on your teammates with twin blasters and deal no damage. They will complain, but that's about it. The only way teammates can take damage is if you don't help them out when they have an enemy on their tail.
