I have a hex editor, so I decided to delve into the data known as Lufia 1.

I found the monster section relatively quickly, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out which number corresponds to which stat. If I can find out the monster stat, we could have data such as monster HP; something that was previously unknown. This all will help me write my FAQ, which I aim to be the most complete Lufia 1 FAQ here.

To do that though, I probably need a lot of time and experimentation. This is why I'm asking for your help in interpreting the information. I've found the Red Core and Green Core data, which will probably help. If there's a monster you feel that can help interpet this data, let me know and I can pull it off quickly.

First things first, I found that monster names have a 10 character limit. With that down, I can quickly find the beginning of their information.

I also found three versions of Gades, two versions of Amon, and two version of Daos. I didn't check to see if there was any variation between the trio yet.

actually, I think it might be a little hard for this game,
I've often noticed small variations in the HP of same monsters, but then again, maybe it's just me

anywho, I think the Baby Crab Monster(around Trek) has approx 28 HP

There are variations in the HP of the monsters. I was hoping to at least pinpoint something with the monster data, but I can't seem to make head nor tails of it.

I do think I figured something out, the 23rd byte in the monster data corresponds to the item that they drop

Poison Rat's data has E1 for the 23rd byte, and that is also the byte for Poison Pin, it's drop

the same occurs in Big Newt, which has E0 in that position, and E0 is the byte for Grilled Newt

it's also probable that the 24th byte is the drop probability (it's 19 for both, would make a 25% chance drop, reasonable since both those items are common)

Oh Snap, it is the Probability....

I just modified the Byte Following E2(Might Sword) on hydra, from 01 to 63

I started a new game, and right now, Maxim has 3 dandy Might Swords in his possesion

Well... ok, I've got more for you.... I was messing around with the Big Newt Data... and here is what I found

Big Newt
00 10 00 10 - ???
0E - Monster Sprite
00 - Monster Sprite Modder??
0B - HP
00 - HP
00 - ?? Possibly MP
00 - ?? Possibly MP
0A - STR
00 - STR
06 - Def
00 - Def
00 - ??
04 - AGL
05 - ??
02 - Exp
00 - Exp Modder?
19 - ??
01 - Gold
00 - Gold Modder?
E0 - Drop Item
19 - Drop Item Probability
00 - ??
00 - ??
01 - ??
0C - ??
08 - ??
13 - ??
00 - ??

I think most of them are two bytes, the statistic, and a modifier(I guess it's for monsters with an HP or another stat of greater than 255)
also... I've got an intersting screen... when I modded the first byte (monster data) I chose 100, and of course, I didn't know what it did at that time... and I got this screen: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v165/golden_kintaro/funwithhex1.jpg

Incredible progress there!

I checked what 10 00 corresponds to, and it appears to be the sprite for Guard Daos.

It seems the first four bytes correspond to monster sprite data.

Okay, I just checked Guard Daos.

Assuming your presumption for HQ is correct, Guard Daos's HP bytes are A0 18.

Now then, A0 18 is 40984. Obviously, this can't be right. So I inverted the values, since Lufia 2's monster data had inverted values for HP. We get 18 A0, which is 6304, a much more reasonable number.

On that note, here are the three Gades HP, assuming they're the correct bytes.

Gades 1
HP - 65535

Gades 2
HP - 2800

Gades 3
HP - 4000

Judging by this, I can say that Gades 1 is Sheran Gades, Gades 2 is Prologue Gades, and Gades 3 is Final Gades.
