If you're playing with a game shark these codes are essential.

A lot of us love Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 but find the matches a bit lack luster at times, due to shorter match times. But thanks to the no mercy zone (and hybridgladstone for posting it here), we now have GS codes that will increase the match times... and it works GREAT!!! Only glitch is you can not pin outside the ring when the codes are in play. If need be, you can turn them off to pin. I don't do falls count anywhere is it's not an issue for me.

Awesome. Really appreciate the posts. Will definitely check them all out.

I can't believe I've been playing this game everyday since I got it. I just can't seem to put it down. I play it on my CRT TV while I have my wii u gamepad next to it playing Puro videos on YouTube non stop.

I love hearing origins and experience about playing this game from others so please share some.

When and how did you start playing this game? How did you find out about it? Who did you play it with. What characters are your favorites and why? Where and how did you buy it etc?

Would love to hear some stories when you get a chance.

I found VPW 64 in a local import store in 1999. Since it was pretty much World Tour with a massive roster expansion and edit mode it instantly became my favorite wrestling game. This was also the time I started trading wrestling tapes, but I hadn't got into AJPW and NJPW yet, I was all about the Jr's and death matches. I used to hang out at the import shop with the owner and we would watch wrestling tapes and anime stuff that he was trying to put me on to.

When VPW 2 came out in 2000 the import shop had a copy, and I started saving money. I used to go in and pick up that awesome box and wonder how dope the game was. I saved my money, went to pick it up, and it was gone. :-( After sitting on the shelf for a month it sold days before I had the money. The internet was firing on all cylinders by that point, so I was going to order it. I looked at the now infamous Buyrite video games, which at the time also had a physical store in Raleigh NC (Hard to believe we had 2 import stores in the Durham and Raleigh area of NC in the late 90s).

I got someone to take me to the store the next Saturday, I got the game and it was on. Just a couple of months later the word was all over the Internet about Buyrite, apparently the guy was just ripping people off left and right, taking online orders and not fulfilling them. This went on for years until multiple reports actually caused the local and state police to shut down the physical store, and the federal government shut down his site. Lucky for me I was close enough to just go to the store and pick it up.

I got super into Japanese and indy wrestling at that time, and since I didn't have money I foolishly traded VPW 2 for like 20 tapes. About 6 months later I was really into old AJPW and realized what a mistake I had made so I bought another copy online. I used to play it in bed, the 64 was on the floor below me. One morning I woke up and in a sleepy haze I accidentally kicked the game out of the GameShark, breaking the board and making it useless. I think No Mercy came out around that time so that held me over but I eventually rebought it.

I don't know what happened to that copy but about 4 years ago I bought a 64 and VPW 2 off eBay and I've been playing it off and on ever since. I play VPW 64 a lot too, I think it's the better playing of the 2 games. The whole spirit system got kind of wonky in Revenge and never fully recovered, it's a regular thing to get 15-20+ minute singles matches out of VPW64.

Fantastic man. Love back stories like that. You know what? Since you praise VPW1 so much I'm going to play it more and unlock the characters.

I already edited all the names. That game is pretty fun on its own right but... VPW2 is still better for me because of the character models and more moves.

I'm on the verge of playing VPW2 out so I'm going to switch it up and give VPW1 some more game time.

Edit: on a sidenote... Lol at that buyrite store. That's just wrong man. Wow... thanks for that story.

i always found the buyrite horror stories odd as i had ordered from them numerous times back in the day (including vpw2 around 2000/2001) and never had a problem.

Please elaborate some more reasons why you like Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 more than 2 PistolDTown.

I would love to hear some nostalgic back stories of you playing the game and finding out why you love it so much.

I've been playing VPW1 abit more this weekend and I like how it has different ring mats. Wish they didn't take them out in VPW2.

people prefer 1 over 2 for the longer matches. its mainly a preference thing though. me personally, i don't need every match to be a 20 minute epic. as long as there is some solid action going on, I'm cool with 7 or 8 minutes (which seems to be an average match length for me).
that goes for single matches anyway...if we're talking multi wrestler matches, i can consistently expect the match to be long.

Yeah after playing it more this weekend I can definitely see that. It's cool but I still like VPW2 more.

I'm glad I bought both though so I'm good. I like to switch things up with the AKI games. I own them all except for the ultimate muscle games. I'm considering picking up the gamecube game sometime later though.
