#69 - School Days - https://myanimelist.net/anime/2476/School_Days

If you ever want to know what it feels like to just be really, really angry, do yourself a favor and watch School Days. It is the single most rage-inducing anime I've ever watched, and it culminates into the perfect ending to pay off that rage. From a purely objective level, this show is pretty bad, but I have so much respect for the emotions it pulled out of me that I can't help but think highly of it.

#68 - Morita-san is a Taciturn - https://myanimelist.net/anime/10671/Morita-san_wa_Mukuchi

This show is a short, uncomplicated, turn-your-brain-off-and-relax show with some cutesy comedy and a cutesy gimmick - the main character is so caught up in trying to find the right words to say that she just never speaks. I can't really put to words why this one was as enjoyable as it was - maybe it was a certain relatability since I also tend to not speak, mulling over what it is that I should say

#67 - Chronicles of the Going Home Club - https://myanimelist.net/anime/18495/Kitakubu_Katsudou_Kiroku

This is an example of a show where the core fanbase sees something deconstructionist about it that I absolutely do not see. It has a great, absurdist sense of humor packaged in a gag comedy format, and it's great for what it is. The true fans see it as a parody of the typical school comedy, basically poking fun at the school comedy tropes. That might be true, but parodies tend to be lost on me.

Watched the first half of Season 4 of Bojack Horseman today. I'm seriously impressed so far. Seasons 2 and 3 were mixed bags (though I'd ultimately rate them as positive), but this one's...kinda knocking it out of the park.

Bojack Horseman is an amazing show. I normally don't like shows where the protagonist is a huge piece of s***, but Bojack does it extremely well for a number of reasons:
1. Bojack is a sack of s***, but he's actually a well-written character.
2. Expanding upon this, he's not just a piece of s*** for the sake of humor. The show actually deconstructs this trope and actually examines the consequences of being a terrible, self-loathing person.
3. Almost literally every other named character in the show is amazing. Mr. Peanutbutter, Todd, Diane, Princess Caroline. They're all super well-written, likable, flawed, three-dimensional characters. Even factoring in minor/background characters, the overwhelming majority of them are well written.
4. On top of that, the show is just genuinely funny and emotional. Combined with the likable characters, it hits a really good balance of comedy and drama that totally works, in my opinion. The funny moments are funny, the emotional moments are emotional, and the two bounce off each other surprisingly well.

It's a really intelligent show when it tries to be, as well. The social commentary can be somewhat blunt at times, but it's usually executed in a way that's entertaining. I highly recommend watching it.

#66 - Tamako Market - https://myanimelist.net/anime/16417/Tamako_Market

This is a weird one. It's basically what you get when you take a typical school comedy slice of life and move the setting outside of the school. It's very big on promoting the idea of local market districts, and it prominently features an overweight philandering bird as a mascot character. Apart from that, it's mostly standard fare, but they just do an incredible job with the characters and a typical Kyoto Animation job with the animation quality.

Finished watching Season 4 of Bojack. Whoooof that was an emotional journey. It was also...Really really good the whole way through. Seasons 2 and 3 were good, but had some Not Great moments scattered between. Season 4 was pretty consistent quality throughout. I'm seriously impressed, and once again feel the need to recommend it.

#65 - School Rumble - https://myanimelist.net/anime/24/School_Rumble

Perhaps the quintessential school comedy, School Rumble runs a giant cast of high-quality characters, and is just genuinely hilarious. As a comedy, there really isn't anything deeper to this - it's just laugh-and-enjoy. I will say, though, that as is usually the case with large-cast series, a couple of the characters did particularly appeal to me - and you should always be a little skeptical when you like a character more than you like the show…

#64 - Castle Town Dandelion - https://myanimelist.net/anime/28387/Joukamachi_no_Dandelion

Where a lot of comedy shows are just thrown together, there was a premise to Castle Town Dandelion that was simultaneously charming and stupid - basically the whole show leads up to an election where one of a king's nine children will be chosen to succeed him. Oh, and all of the children have unique superpowers. The first episode was actually pretty bad, but overall it was a nice, easy-going comedy.

#63 - K-On! - https://myanimelist.net/anime/5680/K-On

When you picture Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime, K-On is the poster child. A small cast of trope-y girls doing mundane things, even though there's an interesting overarching premise. In K-On's case, a small band of aspiring girl rockers have tea parties and get a pet sea turtle. Still, there is some substance to be found here - sometimes the conflicts and story points they are in some pretty interesting thematic spaces - and the music they do play is actually pretty good. I'm probably just talking out my ass though and was suckered in by the moe.

#62 - Library War - https://myanimelist.net/anime/3613/Toshokan_Sensou

What happens when books start getting burned and censored in an effort to control the media citizens are allowed to consume? Why, the libraries create an army, of course. Library War is actually a pretty interesting military-political drama starring a woman who takes no crap from anyone. It's a smart show that doesn't get too pretentious about it.
