At this point in the storyline, Sargeras no longer cared about the Void corrupting Azeroth. He was obsessed with her on an almost lustful level, ever since he first laid eyes on her during the tail end of the War of the Ancients. Sargeras wanted Azeroth for himself, essentially to be his Queen to sit beside him in the Dark Pantheon he was creating.

I had remembered that he had an obsession after the whole Scepter thing, but I didn't know it bordered on lust.

Also - is this all part of Chronicle? If so, I need to read up. With what you said it suddenly makes a lot more sense why Sargeras had to be stopped since he wasn't giving two s**** anymore about stopping the Void Lords and would have actively hindered progress on that end just by existing and being bat s***.

I had always questioned why it was so necessary to stop The Burning Legion considering what was at stake in terms of losing them as a main opposing force to the Void Lords.

Though - there is another point which I think needs to be brought up which I will use a different topic to discuss regarding Imonar.

I mean, the entire universe being conquered by the Burning Legion isn't any better than it being erased by the Void Lords.

Which is fair. I would make an argument that losing one of the opposing forces against the Void Lords, arguably the largest and most powerful is also not great, but considering that Sargeras wasn't actively doing so means that's out as a reason to not want them gone (especially considering with how they are going after Azeroth).

Him actively working to murder every person on Azeroth is also a reason to stop him, I think...

So his sword was metaphorically a penis?

..Given the situation...yeah actually it sort of is. Like, I can't even make a snide joke about it. Blizzard had actually written into the lore that Sargeras was obsessed with Azeroth, and wanted to make her his own. So the position he was in when he was pulled away, the fact that his cosmic form was envelopping the entire planet... Even the sword being stabbed into her..

It really is one giant metaphor of Sargeras literally raping a planet to bend it to his will.

Damn, that’s some Elder Scrolls Vivec/Azura level s*** right there

If Sargeras could just stab Azeroth at any time like that what was the deal with trying to find an avatar and what not?

Why not just do it right away instead of waiting until literally seconds before defeat?

Because WOW Lore is stupid, that's why.

What the actual

ikr....

Someone on this board can make a rape metaphor, but if someone else implies a comparison on how LFR is a like a battered-women's shelter for failed casual players who can't raid.....then watch all hell break loose.

Yeah, idk how I feel about this topic being turned from discussing legion’s finale to a titan raping a planet...

I thought stabbing Azeroth was a last ditch effort. He wanted to have Azeroth as his own, under his control, much like Argus to aid in his fight.

When he knew he was going to be stopped, he wanted to destroy Azeroth since there is no telling when/if he would ever get out and, above all else, he did not want Azeroth to be corrupted by the puppets of the Void Lords (the Old Gods).

High risk though, since the wound itself looks to have actually made Azeroth further susceptible to corruption (as theorized in one of the Il'gonyth quotes, "Her hearts is a crater. We have filled it."). It's entirely possible this is a reference to Jaina, or perhaps even Sylvanas, but as Azeroth has been referred to as female, the end of Legion opens that up to being a possibility as well.

All in all - if he couldn't have Azeroth, he didn't want it to become a tool of the void since Azeroth is supposed to be the strongest titan. If she gets corrupted, I think it's supposed to be bad for literally everyone in the universe that's not void aligned.

His goal wasn't to stab Azeroth, he wanted to kill her inhabitants and corrupt her just like the other titans and use her to strengthen his forces against the void lords. Stabbing her was just to spite everyone after he knew he'd lost.

This. Sargeras wanted allies against the Void Lords. Once he realized that he was about to fail in his Crusade, he said “f*** it” and gave Azeroth the spiteful D.
