Rogue perspective.

Now I see how truly difficult and skillfull vanilla raiding was. Watch in awe as he stops pressing 1 to continue his whispered conversation!

It's not as flashy, but I bet it's harder than the raids now. Regular dungeons back in Burning Crusade are harder than high mythic+ dungeons now.

The thing that makes a lot of older games hard isn't so much complexity as it is unforgiving.

Stand in one place and do your rotation. When the adds spawn, kill the adds with your rotation, then mosey back to your spot. If your threat is too high just sit on your hands for a while.

That's not "difficult." Sure, there was a lot more time invested to grind gear to get there. But if you handed the best two modern mythic raid groups a set of geared 60s and the twenty best vanilla raiders from 2005 a set of geared 110s, which one do you think would clear the expansion's final raid first?

the game wasn't hard back then. all it took was time to get the gear needed. most of the fights were just simple gearchecks.

Vanilla is terrible, the only people who remember it fondly are those who use viewing it that way as an excuse to never have to try again. WoW Classic is only being done because Blizzard is tired of telling people authentic Vanilla WoW is hot garbage nowadays, so might as well let people pay us to resub for a while before making an excuse to quit again when they remember how bad Vanilla actually is.

The only reason they're going to take their time doing it when it could actually be done quickly is because they don't want people asking for and expecting official TBC servers right on its heels. Then Wrath etc.

I saw a video on this. Comparing Vanilla raids to legion raids are apples to oranges- sure, they were mechanically simpler, but players had far, far, fewer tools to deal with the threats they were presented with.

It's impossible to say which are truly more difficult.

I did Rag when it was current. He was not harder than the raids now. Standing still for 95% of the fight when the other 5% was running over to a point for sons and then back was not hard.

You clearly didn't raid back then.

Ragnaros's difficulty amounted to having all your range dps and healers spread out far enough (so they wouldn't punt each other all over the place) and then your raid being fast enough to collapse for Sons of the Flame. As a range DPS I didn't have to deal with the melee issues, but from what I understand it was just a matter of standing far enough back to not get hit by his AOE knockback.

If you want to talk about difficult, start with Vaelestrasz, the original guild destroyer.
I will rule the world, and find that truly good cup of coffee.

Still a better fight than Spine of Deathwing, pre-nerf and post-nerf.
