It's kind of jarring how the COs in this game look and act like unprofessionals Advance Wars

Seriously, they behave like children. Anybody in the military should know what I'm talking about. They're unprofessional, immature, childish, inexperienced, incompetent, and all around useless. The way they dress shows this. The way they talk shows this. And they're supposed to be officers leading enlisted soldiers. Nobody who carries themselves like this can get very far in the military, but these people are apparently leaders. I know it's just a video game, but it's still hard to suspend your disbelief for militaries that are run by high school students.
Days of Ruin is about as dark and serious as this series got, and even then you have flowers growing out of people.
Probably a bad example to use. I mean sure, it's unrealistic, but it's definitely not lighthearted. Seriously, would you like a plant e.g. growing from behind your eye? I'm not sure what's a good example to use for that one, but I do know what you mean. Will's charisma without just about any training as an officer I guess would qualify? Waylon might qualify, too. Still, that game probably made it past slk_23's complaints for soldierly conduct.
But yeah, these guys aren't supposed to be taken seriously. I mean, they're clearly exaggeratedly stereotypical caricatures of various countries throughout our world, so even if they were acting grown-up and trained, they'd still be worthless as being realistic soldiers (they'd spend too much time, e.g. drinking vodka, listening to pop-music, or being obsessed with honor to actual show how that applies to their soldierly life)....
