A flat character is one that has only the bare minimum of characteristics necessary to play their role in the story.

I kind of get that feeling about Isaac, Garet, Jenna, Ivan, and Mia. All five of them are pretty one-dimensional and uninteresting. By the end of the game, I don't feel that I know any more about them, nor do I really sympathize with them at all. Hardly any of them have any discernible personalities, and they all feel rather generic in a sense. Was that the intention with this game? Did they just not care for fleshing out the characters, so they all kind of felt the same?

its because they are. ivan has a amount of personality, but his "joining segment" that would normally exists cause he just says heck that and casts mind read.

the second game does a better job but the heroes are still kinda flat. overall its the enemies that make the game, not the heroes.

but you know thats fine. it was designed well so it ended up good.
