Pal/Ramanas Park area has a statue and five stones, named Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire and Leaf (not to be confused with the Fire and Leaf stones for evolution). Inserting in a stone makes the GBA Pokémon appear. Closing the game removes the stone and you can insert it in again or insert a different one to change the Pokémon that appear (to change the gba pokemon that appeared, you had to return to the title screen and change cartridges).
If locking online play behind a paywall with irrelevant games is a service then bricking your phone and not removing the brick without a fee is also a service.
