Really depends on what we're talking about. Zimmerman did a lot of stuff besides defending himself against Trayvon Martin.

Perhaps, but how much of the post-Trayvon s*** has been obsessed people foaming at the mouth to make something stick?

Well, Zimmerman allegedly threatened an ex with a gun and attempted to profit on the Trayvon incident by selling the gun he used to kill Trayvon, among other things. Sure, a lot of the stuff he did wouldn't be particularly noteworthy if he hadn't shot Trayvon, but he hasn't exactly faded into the background after his 15 minutes of fame.

Tax refunds don't matter because they're just an illusion of getting more money.

It also matters in that you lost access to that capital until you got your refund check, meaning that the government was able to make money on your money instead of you.

Programmers, farmers, and engineers, etc. should be the majority voice of government.
Working in a team is great! It always helps to have someone else to blame.

We should make a clear distinction between citizen and civilian.

4 years of public service should be a requirement for citizenship. Otherwise you don't vote and you don't run for office.

What would qualify as “public service”?

I think there are just way too many beards. It's like living in the 1870s.

Yeah. It's really out of control. The Amish have never been so fashionable.
