RE4 is a good action spin off game for Leon. RE1, RE2, RE3 are infinetly better games though.

RE4 was a great game when it came out, but it has aged, and I don't mean just the graphics.
The game still holds up, funny enough, and not because it's a good RE, it isn't, or a competent TPS, but because the gunplay is still really satisfying.
The amount of weapon discussion threads it spawned is in part a testament to that.

Played it several months ago, and I've grown to like it. It's a great game. The story is fun. Loved the characters. And the regenerators were f***ing creepy to this day. However they were the only horror thing in the game, which is a shame. If RE4 was more horror like the first 4 RE games, then it'd be on the top of everyone's list. I didn't like too much of the action stuff.

With that being said...it's a great game. And it is a good Resident Evil game, just not the best.

Being old enough to have grown up with the classic run of RE (only one I didn't play was CV), RE4 is still definitely a great game in it's own right.

Not my favorite RE or the best game of the series either, but it was a phenomenon when it came out and the impact it had was huge, whether just because it shook up what the RE formula was or becuase it was just a solid action/thriller game that heralded newer things to come and was a successful step in a different direction that attracted more eyes. Random kids in school and co-workers would talk about it for better or worse, showing the extent of its reach afforded by its success. Before RE4 only other gaming nerds I knew even understood what RE was.

It's arguably the best of the over the shoulder games, though I could see pulling for RE5 instead depending on how much you liked the new actions style and co-op (and I have no idea whether the Revalations games are any good).

RE6 s*** all over everything with the horrific mess that it is, and RE7 is just copycat jump-scare garbage that tried to cash in on the success of the modern PC horror style.

It's a masterpiece of a game, but it's a horrible Resident Evil game.
I swear I'm not insane. Yeah, most likely not insane.

I think it's a good RE game. It's not great, because it was too much action, but it still had a lot of great moments that make it a classic.

Those Regenerators were terrifying and still are to this day. Probably the scariest RE enemy

Games don't age. If they're good when they come out they're good forever.

Hell, slap RE4 on a thread and even that makes it popular lol. Here's what I thought about the game. Very good game, but the best evah? Not for me.

Ups:
  • Strong and eerie atmosphere.
  • Good weapon variety.
  • Nice solid soundtrack.
  • Outstanding replayability.
  • Excellent gun upgrade system (stats).
  • Cool inventory system.
  • Cast is more diverse than I thought.
  • Overall great presentation.
  • Cool unlockables & alternate scenarios/modes.
  • Great bosses.
  • Fresh new enemies.
  • The game is long and there's a lot of content.

Downs:
  • Story barely feels like it's part of the Resident Evil world.
  • Extremely cheesy dialogue.
  • Leon and Ada are now superheroes.
  • They gave Leon a codec copycat from Metal Gear Solid.
  • The whole merchant system breaks immersion.
  • The game is mostly an escort mission.
  • Ashley's voice is annoying.
  • Controls are clunky.
  • Quicktime events were a total miss.
  • The Leon/Ada relation felt better in RE2.
  • Big button prompts on screen are the aspect of presentation that sucked.
