I’m playing through Fallen Order and I can’t wrap my mind around why devs think boring, obnoxious puzzles and backtracking is fun or interesting. 9 times out of 10 when I get stuck on something it is something horribly designed, like practically unnoticeable ledges (as was the case in a training flashback I just did).

When I read the comments of these puzzle solution videos, they are universally hated. So why bog down the good parts - the action - with puzzles and “traversal” sections? Do we need to blame Uncharted (and Tomb Raider) for this trend of getting half a minute of killing enemies before having to spend 5 minutes climbing across a wall?

The good parts of Fallen Order are where they took cues from Dark Souls, but the reason that formula works so well is because it trims the fat of other games. Apparently the devs at FO thought it would make more sense to spend half the game sliding around mud and ice then fighting bosses.

TLDR: puzzles and “traversal” parts of action-adventure games suck

I'm like the opposite of this, the action parts tend to bore me to tears, but I love puzzles and exploration

I disagree. I loved everything in that game. Having to pay attention and put effort into navigation and puzzle solving is what made the game special for me. I have no desire to just kill all dudes, go to next area, kill all dudes again. Snooze fest. People just have different tastes and there are plenty of games that consist of only combat that you could go and play.

That’s the sequence I’m referring to by the way. Check the comments.

I will say this was probably the least compelling puzzle in the game, so you're not wrong, but there are so many good sections other than this. But yeah... this was facepalm at the time, haha.

Exploration is the best part of fallen order.
Combat is far overhyped

That part wasn't confusing so much as frustrating. I absolutely hated one of the later puzzles which involves breaking an fire thing to burn stuff away.
