I think the more pragmatic ones have realized, but they're being drained out and bullied by the 45 cult. My state had an incident where the Proud Boys were trying to infiltrate the county party chapter. And then there's Laxalt's plan to run for governor. Oh and Dean Heller too. Neither really has a chance to win.

That's the thing. The "more pragmatic ones" no longer even exist in sufficient enough numbers to matter electorally to the party at all, not even in blue states. There's no appetite for them or their policies whatsoever.

Yet instead the GOP believed its "silent majority" BS and tried to rile up a base that doesn't exist. Then they got the pushback Trump got, only without the votes Trump got
The Republican Party Elites used to be smart enough to not believe their own lies, that seems to have changed lol

Ever since Trump won the 2016 GOP primary, the GOP establishment has needed to be as stupid as the base, or damn good at pretending to be that stupid. Naturally any such pretense becomes real in time.

Exactly. GOP House Reps acknowledging the election results were outnumbered 2:1 by GOP reps objecting to them. Sensible Republicans like Jon Huntsman have been shut out of the GOP. Lifelong conservative Republicans like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are out of favor in the GOP, even though they voted with Trump 90+% of the time. Nope, it doesn't matter how far you pushed Trump's agenda, there are only 3 things Republican primary voters care about:

-Racism - the more racist you are, the better
-COVID-19 - the more you encourage the spread of COVID-19, the better
-Trump - the more you deny the results of the 2020 election, the better

Those are literally the only things Republican primary voters care about. People like Kinzinger and Cheney voted for Trump's agenda and advanced the mainstream GOP's agenda for years. It didn't matter.

Then they will continue to lose and never gain a foothold in some states ever again.
Narutaki was right. This is all Decade's fault.

Yeah that's basically what happened in NY.

Our Republican party used to do well. We had Pataki as governor for 12 years from 1995-2006, and then we had Republican governors Nelson Rockefeller and his deputy from 1959-1974.

But rather than try to adjust their platform to fit the needs of NY, the NY GOP instead decided that their best way to stay relevant was to just go with the most vocal of national GOP figures. They focused on opposing gay marriage and abortion, losing positions in NY. Then they lose in 2006, no surprise there. Their solution?

"Hey, let's nominate a Tea Partier for the Governorship!" He loses. What next?

"Hey, let's nominate Trump's friend Rob Astorino!" He loses. What next?

"Hey, let's nominate somebody nobody knows!" He loses. What next?

"Hey, let's nominate Trump's biggest defender in Congress!"

Gee, I wonder what's gonna happen
