You have to go halfway through the commandments to get to one that isn’t all about God. It’s kind of weird to have rules for personal behavior so inundated by how to bow and scrape.

I’m going to file this here for anyone who doesn’t think Trump is simply a bulls*** artist who pretends to know about subjects just like a kid doing a book report on a book he definitely didn’t read. These are some quotes from a Chicago Tribune piece.

"I wouldn't want to get into it," Trump said, "because to me that's very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible it's very personal so I don't want to get into verses. The Bible means a lot to me but I don't want to get into specifics."

"Are you an Old Testament guy or a New Testament guy?" Heilemann asked.
"Probably equal," Trump said. "I think it's just incredible, the whole Bible is incredible."

“Proverbs. The chapter, 'never bend to envy.' I've had that thing all of my life where people are bending to envy."

It probably won't surprise you to learn that the words "never bend to envy" do not appear in any common translations of the Bible.

And of course he thinks eye for an eye is an instruction for life and not completely abolished by Jesus.

https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/apr/14/donald-trump-favorite-bible-verse-one-jesus-specif/

I wonder why reporters just don’t make stuff up and get him to agree with it, it wouldn’t be hard to expose the game. “What about the part where Jesus tells you to be suspicious of the stranger and immigrants, for your own safety?” *sees a chance to pander to evangelicals* “Oh yeah it’s probably the biggest thing that defined my immigration policies, Jesus’ words. Jesus was a smart guy, really amazing.”

You forgot this one, when asked whether or not he asks God for forgiveness for his sins:

If I do something wrong, I think I just try to make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.
When we go into church — and when I drink my little wine, which is about the only wine I drink, and have my little cracker — I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness. I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed, OK?
But, to me, that is important. In terms of officially, I could tell you absolutely. I don’t think in terms of that. I think in terms of, ‘Let’s go on and let’s make it right.

If Hyena is (was) Catholic, that is stupid. As I understand it (and I don't pretend to be an expert), you must have, at a minimum, gone to confession and done your assigned penance before you can be "in communion with God" which allows you to partake in the Eucharist (communion). You need the forgiveness before you get to sit at the table where Jesus broke break and shared the cup.

It's less so as a Protestant, where joining communion is part of expressing the relationship that we have with God, and accepting the sacrifice he offered for us. I grew up in a Protestant church, and we didn't really go on about needing to be in some kind of "state of grace" or forgiveness like Catholics are required to do before communion. (Maybe we do? I was never educated in it... then again, until a few years ago, I didn't know/understand that both Protestants and Catholics believe in the True Presence at communion, because I thought there was a distinction that the True Presence was part and parcel of Catholicism's transubstantiation... which it's not.)

So... while we can't fault Hyena for their interpretation and personal relationship with God about "making it right" as bringing them into a state of forgiveness, I'm fairly certain that from a procedural (if not doctrinal? am I using that word right?) viewpoint, Hyena is wrong about the wine and "cracker" being part of the asked-bestowed forgiveness.

I'm not a lapsed Catholic, so I don't find it offensive. Just technically wrong, from what I've learned.

Yeah I was quoting Hyena quoting Trump.

Trump is so beyond redemption I think even Damien Thorne is more sympathetic.
