I wish devs these days would just release their own gameplay footage with one of their own playing the games competently, directly to the public online, then people can see how it's actually supposed to run. Cut out the journos altogether.

How do these people become journalists when they literally don't know how to hold a controller?

By knowing the right people and having the correct opinions, it seems.

If being generous, one might suggest the IGN journo had some disability - or was having a stroke or something at the time of playing. But the more likely truth is that this person simply isn't a gamer, and has no business being there in the first place.
Gaming journalism for the most part, is just a hive mind of hipster ideologues using the medium to spout their nonsense. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they were at least competent gamers, but they can't even manage to find those now.

Game itself looks aight. Hard to tell at this stage.

E: And if TC tweet is true, and it was dev playing the demo, that's worse honestly. Just shows the problem extends into the development of gaming too. Already have serious concerns about the people involved in making this game. Some of these Paradox people's haircuts should be alarming enough.

Ffs people, it was a Paradox developer who was playing. He claimed he was "tired."

That still doesn't explain the horrific gameplay.

That makes little sense to me. IGN had the developer play through (and the dev they chose for the task did not know to hold his right thumb on the control stick) yet Gamespot got to play through themselves? That sounds kinda...BS.

That's what I was thinking too. And the idea that the "dev" player was just messing around with the game by deliberately playing badly because they were tired just doesn't wash imo. Firstly, why do that when they know that IGN is going to be releasing this footage to the public? What kind of advertisement for your product is that? Second, deliberately failing a mission and screwing around is one thing, but this person clearly didn't know how to control the game properly. It was literally like watching someone play who didn't know how to use the controller.

On the other hand, what has Paradox to gain by lying? I'd think they'd rather we think it was rubbish journalist playing than one of their own. Doesn't make sense. Unless the actual controls are just really bad??

Demos with press are hands-off at E3, so most likely it's a tired developer who wanted to wreak havoc on everything after running the demo one too many times. There will be other recordings from different outlets with most likely different playstyles ;)

There's tired, and there's playing a video game one-handed. It really doesn't speak well about the developer that one of the, if not the, gaming media outlets present got to watch a demo played by someone making the game who didn't look like they knew how to hold a controller, much less know anything about the mechanics in the game.

They need to work on the feeding from behind animation and some other ones. Otherwise looks good so far.
