Its not a chain. Its a static number of how many of that Pokémon you K.O.. Once you K.O. a specific amount (500 iirc), you are at max odds. The max odds for REs is 3% for a 1/512. Still haven't beaten Skyward Sword, even though it's been 9 years Bankmon list: https://bit.ly/3aUu9ds |

I have killed over 3000 slowpoke and no shiny but hatched on the 200th egg. The pokedex stop counting at 999 and getting to 500 just to match the odds of the masuda method isn't worth it |
