I wanted to start a chain. Is it known if turning off the Switch while in a chain breaks the chain?
Hello. I've got nothing to put here.

Chain? Are you talking about with fishing?

No, I'm talking about where you battle different wild Pokemon of the same species. The more you catch or faint, the higher your chain goes, and the higher your chance of a shiny.

Its not a chain. Its a static number of how many of that Pokémon you K.O.. Once you K.O. a specific amount (500 iirc), you are at max odds. The max odds for REs is 3% for a 1/512.
Still haven't beaten Skyward Sword, even though it's been 9 years

Yeah, chaining isn't a thing in these games (except for fishing I think).
And with the way the boost to the shiny rate works, it isn't even worth the effort.

So even if I turn off the Switch, my odds will not go down, because it's not a chain?

That's right.
But again, even if you hit the highest number (I think it was 500 like that other user mentioned) the boost is so insignificant that it isn't worth the effort.

Warning ya now that this method sucks hard due to a glitch in the game. The masuda egg method is way better. I have killed over 3000 slowpoke and no shiny but hatched on the 200th egg.

The pokedex stop counting at 999 and getting to 500 just to match the odds of the masuda method isn't worth it

Seems like Masuda is the better option, then. Thanks for letting me know.
