It basically amounts to, "I don't get why people are complaining about the DLC, because it's significantly less scummy than the stuff they've been doing for decades before this."

So yeah the s***ty assumption part and saying something is scummy when in reality it isnt

Wasting time chronically adding and cutting features is a problem too.
We've seen nifty ideas that deserved further refinement disappear at the drop of a hat. Like the Underground.
Flavor of the month the game series.
Seasons and day night cycles being something that either goes away, exists for half the game, or only works for specific set pieces. Poke Pelago and Berry and item farming, wild area being a live service grindathon with bad RNG and low catch rates.

Surprised people defend the wild area so vehemently given it's stuttering, poor optimization, clunky online, and mind numbing grinding gameplay. If it worked perfectly they might have an excuse, but to come out like it does when they have a three year headstart into the switch's lifetime is another thing.

I mean... It really, really is though. From day one they've basically just been deliberately arbitrarily locking content out of their games so they can sell it twice.

And yeah, not supposed to buy both supposedly, sure. That doesn't change that they have constant incentives for getting both and that clearly a lot of people do and that there hasn't been a solo release since Platinum because the solo ones weren't making as much money by comparison.

But thats the thing the incentives exist for the purpose of trading between games.

Because if you think they are designing it to sell to people twice then there is a bit of a flaw in the fact that Nintendo would be the one fully benefiting from it because you need a second system period

There’s a more consumer friendly way of doing it. They can literally give the players options,

“Are you playing as Sword or as Shield?”

“As Shield? Ok you will be playing Pokémon Shield throughout the whole playthrough, are you sure this is what you want?”

“If you want to play as sword, you must reset all your progress, are you sure you want to continue? You won’t be able to access your data from shield and it will be deleted”

“Remember to store any Pokémon into the Pokémon storage system known as Pokémon Now Home to keep all your Pokémon and bring them with you into future play throughs!”

They already have the storage system in place, that’s 5 dollars a year for 3MB if storage.
Because if you think they are designing it to sell to people twice then there is a bit of a flaw in the fact that Nintendo would be the one fully benefiting from it because you need a second system period
The other person needs to buy the system from Nintendo to actually achieve this, not only do Nintendo get profits from the games themselves (1/3) they also get profit from people buying their systems. Pokémon isn’t called a “System Seller” for no reason.

Which... There would still already be plenty of reason for without that. Trade evolutions, could always make fossils mutually exclusive again, starters, you could make mutually exclusive events like with the Legendary Insert Whatever Animal You Want To Call Them in FRLG and the birds in X & Y...
