In this contest, we're going to determine what the best Pokémon is -- or at the very least, the fan favorite on this board.

First of all, a huge thank you to everybody who took part in the preliminary rounds! Without everybody who voted, this contest would have died early on, but now we've reached the halfway point and can find our winner.

For the second half of the contest, the rules are going to be a bit different.

Instead of voting for your favorite Pokémon, you're going to vote for your LEAST favorite. Instead of voting for somebody to win, you're voting for somebody to lose. The intent behind this is to slowly eliminate Pokémon, one-by-one, until we have (in theory) a top ten made up of the most deserving.

To repeat: Make sure you vote for the Pokémon you want to LOSE.

To help make sure that something doesn't stumble into the Top 10 by remaining in a random number generator's blind spot when the rounds are picked, all Pokémon that are NOT eliminated in their rounds will be removed from the current pool, and won't be picked again until duplicate picks become necessary.

Also, just a reminder. If a Pokémon has an alternate form (for example, Alolan Raichu or Necrozma-fused Solgaleo), the alternate form is considered the same as the base form for the purpose of this contest.

In the event of a tie at the end of a 24-hour voting period, there will be a small time extension until the tie is broken. If the tie is NOT broken by the end of the day (I've gotta sleep sometime), the winner will be determined via random number generator.

Wasn't able to respond to Sammuthegreat before the poll and thread closed. It's all well and good to request comments, but to use them as a judge of the poll's veracity is, in my opinion, a fool's errand. In any online community, the majority of users browse and read but don't participate. Visitor/guest statistics vs member and post counts have almost always held that up to be true, barring niche or small communities where only the participants are even aware of the site.

So there will almost always be more people voting in polls then there will be people posting in the poll thread, by at least a factor of ten on average I'd wager. By virtue of the fact that the majority of the voters will choose not to participate in the discussion itself, the discussion will be irrelevant as a gauge for the poll. It's not even a random sample of the total population, because it's inherently those with a common, shared trait that the remainder of the population does not share in.

Particularly when you consider that the flow of conversation very easily precludes people of certain opinions from wanting to participate. Not everyone wants to be argumentative and combative online, but those that do tend to be the ones most likely to post. So if a majority of people come along and vote for X, then skim through comments to see only chatter for Y, those people will often opt not to comment at all. And then you'll be left with a thread that's all about supporting Y, but a poll that shows support for X.

Casting votes through comments instead of a poll is perfectly fine, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with comments themselves. Nor for asking there to be a discussion beyond just voting. I'm only saying that the discussion will neither prove nor disprove poll results. Of course, polls can be tampered with, and have been before and will again. But the number of times where there actually is a wolf is far, far fewer than the number of times people cry wolf.

For the record, I voted for Sceptile this time. I truly dislike the Hoenn starters, even more than I disliked Incineroar. At least I got Litten and Torracat out of the exchange, whereas I honestly dislike all three stages of all three starters in Gen III.

Can't disagree with any of the above Conn_Eremon. You're absolutely right that plenty will vote but not post, and you're absolutely right that there's no foolproof way of determining if vote dumping is happening without having access to IP addresses etc, which is all way over the top for a simple online poll.

I only mention the "checking how comments match up against votes" thing because that's what OP elected to try out in the Preliminaries for a while, which is fair enough since there's not much else he's able to do (see above) to try and ensure a fair contest. Ordinarily it wouldn't be relevant but he did specifically request in the OP for a while that votes were followed up with comments. I get that people don't always read the OP on polls anyway, especially if the OP is quite lengthy.

Anyway enough about controversies we won't ever solve. Let's just get on with enjoying the rest of the contest :)

For my part this was a tough round since I at least like all 10 options. Floatzel and Mewtwo are the ones I like the least, and I plumped for Mewtwo mainly because I'm a bit bored of it by now (which is saying something considering my favourite Pokemon is still Charizard after all these years).

Sad but not surprised that Swellow bit the bullet.

I like all of them. It was hard, but voted Steelix. I never was a fan of trade evolutions.
Hella strange.

Down with Mewtwo. It's just an overrated legendary, I'm sick of seeing it being pandered so much.
