There would never have been better comic book writers if there had not been Stan Lee. He was pretty much the first to make superhero characters actual characters, with real thoughts and flaws. Before him, superheroes were 2 dimensional -- their only thought 'Fight the villains'.

Stan's writing was pretty bad by today's standards, so were a lot of other pioneer writers.Characters would tell people their origins every issue with very little prodding. Aunt May would faint constantly, for no reason.

I disagree and see the exact opposite. I think todays’ writers suck to high heaven and have no sense of continuity whatsoever. I think Stan and others set the bar very high. Stan’s stories are STILL entertaining decades later.
