I’ve played guitar since I was thirteen or so. I’m 36 now. Taught myself by learning tabs and chords online. I can remember using a tab/chord database called OLGA back in the day that I’m pretty sure is defunct now. Because of how I taught myself, I really don’t know a whole lot of theory, which has definitely hindered my growth as a musician over the years I think. I also used to play bass in a couple of bands years ago, but I wouldn’t call myself a bass player.

Right now I just have a Yamaha acoustic, though I have dreams of buying a Les Paul and a Marshall JCM 800 head and a cab at some point in my life. I don’t have any recordings of myself playing, but I have the day off tomorrow, so maybe I’ll whip something up.

used to play bass, haven't in 4 years, probably really bad at it now (was only mediocre at it at best)

still was fun.

combination of self-taught and my brother-in-law who was a bassist in a band. used an Ibanez sr400 something or other, with a cheap s***ty fender amp. drove my parents nuts when i would practice in the house.

Yep; I play guitar, bass and piano.

I like doing it so much; I built a site for musicians to share their music and compete (all in good fun):

https://www.musician-war.com/

Its not entirely finished (we are wrapping up beta testing and the site isn’t entirely “mobile ready”); but, it’s enough to have some fun with if anyone wants to help me “break it” to see what may need to be fixed before final release :)

Play guitar and bass, not particularly great at either one, especially bass.
Here's my latest release if anyone's interested. It's metal

Been playing on and off for about 30 years. I consider myself more of a songwriter.
I own a cheap Ibanez and an epiphone
My bass is a yamaha

I play guitar and I’ve been saving up for a Lowden or a Froggy Bottom.

here’s a little of me playing:

I usually play in open tunings. ^That was in CGDGAD.

feel free to share your playing:

(^go to settings and turn everything off for better sound quality)

also what guitars/bass/drums do you own? how long have you been playing for? are you self taught or did you take a course?
Nice playing and use of harmonics

I learned piano, guitar, bass, and drums, in that order. Took lessons as a kid for the former, which gave me a pretty good theory background to teach myself guitar as a teenager, through printing out tabs and sheer willpower. Found out that if you can play guitar you can basically play bass, though I could never wrap my head around the slap technique. Taught myself drums when a friend had his kit in my basement for awhile just by pounding away until it started to sound good. I don't own a kit, but I ghost rhythms constantly for practice. Have a small arsenal of guitars, ranging from nice to very cheap, a single Schecter bass, a 50w EVHIII rig plus various Crates, decent homemade pedal board, an upright piano and a nice Korg keyboard.

If I had to guess at competency, I'd say, outta 10, I'm 5,7,5,3, respectively. 20+ years piano, but I severely decreased practicing after a bad audition, so I don't sound "20 years good". Guitar/bass like 15 years, drums about 10.

Bass, drums, keys, percussion, bells, anything that makes a rhythm.

I'm a decent singer as well. Way too f***ing clumsy to play guitar.
his comparison suggests we're closet african americans.

Lol, this is almost the exact same path as me; started with piano; picked up guitar and bass along the way (I can’t play drums worth crap though). We’ve got about the same competency levels too.

I find guitar is a much easier than piano and I think it’s a bit more versatile as well in terms of what your can do with in composition wise. But, when I’m up for a challenge, Ill sit down at the bench and try to hammer out some Rachmaninoff (well, ok, nowadays, I mostly just play video game music on piano ;) )
