I got the first album Saturate in 2002 when it first came out, and was a fan of it. I used to play it all the way through when I would have to do house cleaning among other things. There used to be a song on this album called "Wither" Then about a year ago I came across a cover of this song by Dream Theater. I was surprised to see they covered it of all people, but no less It was fairly interesting and a great cover by one of my favorite bands. It was more or less the same song, but they used altered lyrics, they made it feel bigger, and they included a solo and a beautiful piano breakdown. I had to lookup the original BB version because of the nostalgia, but I started noticing that, for whatever reason, NO one had it up. This was bizarre to me because I remember this song was popular at the time. It was played on the radio often, and they even had a music video of it. So i look it up only to find out it was actually Dream Theater themselves that wrote it. My reaction to this was extreme upon finding this out. Dream Theater wrote it? What? The melody of this song is completely not DT, neither is the overall feel of it. I mean they spiced it up to feel more epic and big, and a solo was included, but it's Dream Theater, that's what they do. But the spirit of the song was mostly intact. When does DT make a song like this? It's like if I randomly found out one day that something like Lithium was written by Dio in 1999 despite still having that Nirvana feel. He just threw in a darker feel, altered lyrics, and a solo.

The original version of this song obviously sounded smaller. It had strings in it, but they sounded smaller/closer, and there was no reverb. The drums were also more simplistic, and it lacked the solo and piano breakdown. I can tell you right now that the BB version is still very clear in my head. I can hear the way he sang, the sound production quality, I can practically play parts of it in my head at the rate of roughly 75% accuracy(not the best at ruling out percentages) so I know this version existed at one point, but it seems to not exist anymore for whatever reason, and no one seems to remember it. Certainly a glitch in the matrix for me.

Oh great, this guy.

He spams Paranormal/Conspiracy with these Mandala Effect posts and probably has severe anterograde amnesia.

anterograde amnesia...Gee, haven't heard that before. LOL

Yeah, the lyrics in the breaking benjamin version were more about a guy who had a falling out with his girlfriend and needs to confront her but he's too cowardly to do so, while DT's version is apparently about writer's block.

I can even remember the lyrics. I put these down last year as I had intended on putting them on the other forum, but i never really got around to it, though i realized i made an error or two that i just fixed.

Let it out, let it out. Fill the empty Space
So insecure find the words and let it out
Staring down to the ground. Nothing seems to hit
I find the place and turn the water into s***
Now I feel I'm getting nowhere. And I'll never see the end
So I wither and render myself helpless
I give in and everything is clear
I breakdown. And let the story f*** me

Ring the bell. Ring the bell. Let the feelings flow
Close your eyes. See the life you used to know
Open up open up. Don't struggle to relate
Lure it out. Help the memory escape
Still transparentness consumes me. And I feel like giving up
So I wither and render myself helpless
I give in. And everything is clear
I breakdown. And let the story f*** me
I wither. And give myself away

Like reflections from the day. It's here she comes my way.

I drown in hesitation. My words come crashing down
And all my best relations. Burning to the ground
The thought of staring over. Leaves me paralyzed
Run away again. Another one that got away

I wither and render myself helpless
I give in. And everything is clear
I breakdown. And let the story f*** me
I wither. And give myself away

Like reflections from the day, It's here she comes my way.
It's here she comes my way.
Let it out, let it out.
