Is it normal that the level of your characters revert back to 1 after clearing a dungeon?

I've a put a few hours into the game so far, but this still leaves me confused, as to where that's a bug or intended by the developers.

It's completely normal, you have to start at 1 in every dungeon.

That seems like such an odd decision to make... but ok.

Most of your stats come from your gear and Blooms anyway so it makes sense

I take it this is your first (non-Pokemon) mystery dungeon game? Hell even PMD had endgame dungeons where you start at level 1.

I've only played a few dungeon crawlers (no Pokemon ones) and this is the first one where I came across this.

this game is advertised for "Rougelike" which is a far cry different from baby Dungeon Cralwers like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. All Roguelikes are very unforgiving in that regard.
Don't complain that a game is hard if your playing on hard mode.....thats just silly.

It seems odd to have your characters' levels revert back to 1 after a quest, but it makes sense for this sort of game.

It lets them make newly-unlocked dungeons harder gradually, rather than exponentially. It's easier to balance a late-game dungeon around you going in at level 1 with good gear than around you going in at level 99 with good gear. The former gives you, the player, room for growth within that dungeon, while the latter, uh, sort of doesn't, really. You start out relatively weak and get gradually stronger while going through a new dungeon, and so do your enemies.
