Considering the age, limited resourcepool, limited development time and how it still brought the foundations of DMC3 and gave us the best looking Dante (And Lucia is quite the eyecandy too), I'm going to give it to DMC2.
It's still bad, but not DmC bad.

It’s not our job as consumers to give a pass to a s***ty product because of something like limited dev time and limited resources. Don’t make excuses for a big company that couldn’t give a s*** about you, it makes you look like an idiotic fanboy
