So how does this game relate back to the original few games from SNES?

I know some of the names might have been mentioned in DQXI (I'm not finished the full story yet), such as Erdrick for example.

Any other ideas or info?

Erdwin could be a retranslation of Erdrick.
In the Postgame, the overworld tune changes to a remaster of the one from DQ3.

That's about it.

Thanks for the response. Sounds plausible enough....

Erdrick itself was a rename. The original was Loto or Roto depending on which transliteration of the Japanese R/L sound you prefer.

The use of Erdwin is a clear reference to Erdrick, because the character itself is a reference to Roto/Loto/Erdrick. Sereneca is a reference to the DQ3 female Sage, Morcant to the DQ3 male Magician, and Drustan to the DQ3 male Warrior.

So DQ11 just continues on the series tradition, established in DQ1 and 2, that “Roto/Loto/Erdrick was the previous hero you follow after.” Nothing more than that.

Erdrick was Loto in Japanese; Erdwin is something like Louche in Japanese.
